OC Question on a 1700+ T-Bre A

Hey guys, I know this is an old CPU and Is been doing good so far but I felt like doing a bit of OCing around so if it dies then I have would be force to upgrade it. So far this is what I have gotten;

Original:
Temp: 45-46 Idle load around 49 degress
11x 133 = 1463Mhz
CPU v. 1.5v
3DMark01 = 11253
3DMark03 = 8375

Overclocked:
Temp idle 45
8.5x 200 = 1700Mhz
CPU V. = 1.5v
3DMark01 = 14331
OCCT Stability Test = Pass
CPU Temp during test = 50 degress @ 97.99% Load

I haven't done the Torture test yet but I was wondering if someone can give me some tips as far as what is more importan. The FSB to go up or the multipliyer and also I haven't crank up the voltage yet. I read that we most drop the multipliyer and up the FSB but how far and how far should I bring the multipliyer?

Also what zone should I keep my CPU Temp on max load?

CPU speed is the most important overall, but before you look for final system settings you should find out how far your cpu and ram will clock individually. There are a few really good guides on this forum to guide you if you're not sure how to do this. Also, have you unlocked that Thoroughbred?

I think that the AthlonXP 1700+ T-bre A is unlocked or my mobo unlocked it. I can go all the way down to 5x and up to 22.5x on the Multipliyer. As far as how I go by checking how high the CPU and the Ram go I am not sure how I would go about that. I will have to read and check.

Is it worth leaving my setting @ 1700Mhz 8.5x 200FSB MF400Mhz ? do I need to bring the Multipliyer higher for better performance? I had a nasty crash the other day with my Nvatabus.sys & NFTS.sys file.

My goal is to rieach a good upper Mhz with good stability with my cheap Volcano Cooler. Just to be able to run games a bit better. Not trying to max out my CPU with out a proper Cooler yet because fear it will damage my other hardware parts. Also don't really want to up my voltage unless I have to at 1.65 the most.

There are 3 simular but different 1700+, 1 b eing the Pally, the other 2 being Tbred "A" and "B" and CPU-Z @ www.cpuid.com will tell you.
The Tbred "B" is the most friendly OCer.
Make sure your PCI/AGP is set to 33/66 to lock the bus speeds.
Keep your fulll load temp below the mid 50s range. OCCT will quickly stress your system and test for stability. SO, that will determine just how much you can up the vcore being you will need more than 1.65v which it self being to low could be the cause of instability.
Always go with the highest FSB possible that is stable and up the multiplier accordingly.
BTW, if you upgrade your FHS, that MB is a tight fit being the Caps are very close to the socket.
A litle FYI, that MB is a very good OCer, looking into a "Barton" core CPU would do you very well if your considering upgrading.

Hey Duke, sorry for being such a noob but what dose FHS and FYI mean?

By the way if I up my voltage from 1.5 to 1.65 won't that rise my temperature a bit higher? I will try to test it like that with this settings to see if my temp go even higher.

Thanks ELmo1989,

By the way Duke I manage to get 1.8Ghz with 9x200 Vcore: 1.65v and it load to windows temp was about 48 on the CPU when I check on the bios. However, it was taking long to read my loading programs and it was being slow. What should I do next?

I think I should try maybe using Easy Tune5 to find my setting witting Windows using the 8.5x200 @1700 with my normal voltage and then start changing the voltage to 1.65 until I find a stable setting to try in the bios.

You can go as high as 1.7vcore but just to make it stable, just keep it below 55c. under load
