Socket A Semprons? - Page 2

why would he need to complain when he got a 512l2 cache instad of 256 and he got 2.2ghz instead of the advertised 2.0ghz

I'm seriously doubting he's got a useable 512kb cache as he's gotten almost no performance increase what-so-ever after changing his rig (maybe 1-3 fps but that's from the clock speed I assume). In the same game he's comming no where near my FPS in the same area.

the sempies were introduced as say what the durons were to the XP at that time. The nice thing is that the sempies preform well for sckt being a budget cpu. You dont get the 512k l2 but they oced well. So as in a proformance increase from an xp... maybe but not much if any.

btw the last time i checked the sempies only had 256 l2 which is why they were cheaper then the higher xp models

For the price differential I am not sure why anyone would purchase a Socket "A" Sempron when they could purchase a Socket 754 Sempron.

Astounding.

heh not my $$$$
I remember reading this somewhere: The Socket A Sempron 3300+ was originally a Socket A Athlon XP 3200+. AMD got stuck with a gross of them when the Socket 754 (or was it 939) became mainstream. They disabled half the cache and lowered the the FSB to 333mhz.
Can anyone confirm this?

1GB DDR RAM (running at 266mhz)

AMD Sempron 3300+ (socket A not socket 754)
Biostar M7NCG motherboard
Corsair 1GB DDR Dual channel (2x 512MB)
ATi Radeon 9800pro (256MB)
He complains that he has gotten no performance increase in-game. I did a little hunting and I found a couple references to a 333mhz FSB Sempron 3300 but he claims his is a 400mhz FSB 3300+. I'm guessing it's an OEM CPU since it doesn't show up on AMD's web site. My question is what is this CPU and how come it's performance is no better than his last setup?

Sorry if this is in the wrong area
Make sure everything is running at stock speeds.... some motherboards need to have a jumper switched for certain FSB's...

could also be the biostar mobo... those small cheapo mobos won't give you good performance, instead they tend to get unstable after a while, get asus, abit or something like that.

asus a7n8x series boards are some of the fastest and most reliable boards, you can get for socket A

My recommendation would be to either buy another motherboard with socket A or to skip socket 759 (no dual channel, sucks noodles) and get a socket 939 with an A64 CPU. For OC I would recommend a cpu with a 10x multiplier, as those somehow tend to OC the best ( in AMD 64's case it's a 3200+)

and don't get a jetway, ECS or bioware boards or some cheapo stuff like that. that's abuse of an AMD 64 IMO. buy asus, abit, or DFI

I am the pour soul who did not see a performance increase. I've done my homework and found my PC is 400Mhz FSB with 400Mhz RAM.

Any recommendations I can have for a good mobo and processor for 500-600 dollars? I'm really looking for some good FSB speed and processor power.

Now in this game, Trainz, the real problem really isn't FPS number, but more a loading speed. The game is very laggy for me. When a new object loads into the scene the computer goes through tones of stress to load it.

My hardrives are up to speed for the game. Both are 7200rpm one (the Trainz drive) with 8mb of cache and the OS drive has 2mb.

Frankly I want my old Mobo and Processor back, but sadly it went to my grandfather and irretrievable. :swearing:

I think I'll just give up the whole Trainz thing anyway and FS. Because I'm really just sick of it!

This sucks bigtime,
