Best mouse under $40?

Thread Starter
My girlfriend is needing a new mouse and she doesn't want to spend over $40. She prefers wired.

She does mostly graphic design and plays some L4D2, CSS, Sims 3, etc...

I'm pretty mouse illiterate. I mentioned the mx518 but she said her dad has that one and doesn't want the same mouse as him if she can avoid it (yes she's weird lol). Any ideas?

I'll second the Logitech MX series. All of my mice have been MX series mice. Love them.

Any other ideas? I'm trying to build a list for her to pick from. She's not feeling the look of the x5. Still trying to push her on the mx518.

I've got a Sidewinder X5 too, its great but its also really large and not the best looking. I'd say MX518. OCZ Eclipse is also a decent option but I've never really used mine enough to know whether its better than the X5.

The Microsoft X5's sensor is an early generation laser. I would avoid at all cost, but that's just me.

The Mx518's drivers actually degrade the performance of the sensor (Avago 3080E), but it's a pretty good mouse if you're willing to manually bump the polling rate.

It has set DPI's of 400, 800 and 1800.
