MSI g31tm-p21 overclocking

I am new to overcloking manually as the last board I had could OC automatically

My processor is the best 775 with low TDP and has served me well in my games. This is more for when Guild Wars 2 and Crysis 2 and even FF14

Anyone with the exact board and processor who could oc this? Everytime I try even at a modest 3.0 ghz it goes wrong. It always give me a red letter warning to keep settings afraid if I say yes it'll fry on me

Since your using an MSI board try the following settings:

1) Go to CELL MENU under BIOS
2) Disable C1E, HPET, etc. - refer to overclocking sticky for complete list
3) Set mem:fsb ratio to 1:1
4) Set PCI-E frequency to 104 Mhz
5) Start pushing your fsb 10 Mhz at a time to be safe

This is a tedious process since you have to hit F10 to save and boot to windows. Once you are able to boot to windows, re-start windows and enter BIOS (DEL key) and keep increasing your fsb until you hit your desired OC. I actually use 20 Mhz "jumps" to OC my board.

I would leave your CPU core voltages on Auto for now. Once you've succesfully OC'd to your desired level then check using CPU-z what your actual voltage is and use that setting to Manualy change your CPU core voltage to the indicated value if you feel like it and even lower the voltage if you wish.

Good luck with your OC!

Hey it works. I never changed the pci express bus before today. I got the exact modest overclocking I wants

My q9550s is now running at the stock 9650 speed, 4 cores of 3 ghz.

Can anyone tell me which "overclocking sticky" mark_thaddeus was referring to in his post above? I'd like to overclock my MSI g31tm-p21, but don't know what to disable besides C1E, HPET. Many thanks for any help anyone can offer here...

When I did the OC'ing for my soon to be former processor Q9550s.

At 104 mhz PCIE, I couldn't get above 353x8.5 but fully stable
At 107-108, I couldn't get above 365x8.5 but fully stable

At 111-112, It ran for less than an hour at 377x8.5. The cheap non heatspreader memory is prob the cause of that
I didn't try any pcie frequency above 112

I managed.ive put memory fsb ratio 1:1, PCI-E frequency to 106 MHz and FSB 350 X 7 - 2.45 GHz ... The temperature in Prime95 is 61 degrees, but still throws me for something graphical (display driver stopped working) is it dangerous?
