Antec Dark Fleet Series Owners Club - Page 20

Hello Fellow Dark fleet owners,
I've just built a Game PC (my first serious Game PC) with the Dark fleet 35. THis is what's inside: i7 2600K, MSI GTX560 Ti Hawk, Coolermaster Extreme 700, WD Black 1TB.

I'm dissapointed with the entire setup as it's quite noisy - i suspect it's the graphic card because the noise ramps up after about 10-15 minutes of BC2 and i can see the temps go up too in the graphic card through MSI Afterburner. I've used Afterburner's graph to tame the fan noise and place the PC under the desk with pillows surrounding it but i can still hear the roar of the PC/Graphich card.

The PC guy said that i should change to the Antec P183 if the noise is disturbing me....but i'm not too sure that the P183 will be significantly better. What do you think? If it's the PC that's allowing the noise to come through then my pillow experiment should have cut down the noise but it is still quite noisy through the pillows so the noise is coming out of the outlets (which are needed for cooling).

The other thing about the P183 is that it doesn't have a side fan option which i think is essential to bring cool air to the graphic card (cooling it down as quickly as possible - thereby also reducing the noise).

Can you please advise - is the Dark Fleet 35 any more noisier than other cases? will a different case make a significant noise reduction? i'm even thinking of getting a carpenter to build an enclosure around the PC (where i can stuff more pillows) with openings for the fans.

Why are you calling it a Def-Con? It's clearly a Dark Fleet 35. I read you're other posts and I'm certain it's your GPU. My overclocked GTX 570 has three fans and is dead silent, same goes for my Silver Arrow which has two fans and is fairly quiet. The most noise from my DF-85 probably comes from the seven chassis fans and the front three intake fans are noisy as hell when turned up to max. Don't consider replacing your case when you're GPU is most likely the culprit.

Solve the noise issue at its source.

Yes - you're right - it's the Dark Fleet - i forgot what the name.....

Yes..what is your exacit GTX570 model? So it's silent in a normal home environment? I'm thinking that to a lot of these reviewers who review something like the MSI GTX560 Ti Hawk and don't mention something about the noise......they must be either in a noisy environment (with other PCs) or they have the radio/tv blaring in the background....cause the Ti Hawk is noisy......

It's the best I can do with a non-modular PSU. I may try harder to opt for one in my next build.

(Sorry if the image is a bit big redface.gif)

Much better!

Same here, although mine is modular I happen to have everything plugged into it anyway. I have so many wired crammed behind the motherboard plate it's nuts.

Here is my GTX 570. I know somebody who has the Twin Frozr II version of your card and has no issues as far as I can tell. Perhaps it's your specific card, though I have heard that the Hawk design can be a bit noisy. I''d suggest RMA your card if it's really getting to you.

Is it really possible to RMA a 'noisy' card in Melbourne? isn't that a bit harsh???? Sure i'll love to be able to get a 2nd chance but the card works as advertised and the manufacturer/supplier will surely fight the attempt......and i did pick the card myself (after the raving review on guru3D) so i've got no one to blame....

I've also fitted a fan to the side - got the Artic cooler PWM fan 120mm and i think it works great to bring in fresher air to the graphic card.....

My overall review of the Dark Fleet 35 is that it's quite a good value for money case - it's does prioritize better cooling over sound proofing. A big reason why i chose it were the 2 front filtered fans....

But after i got the case i do notice there are a lot of holes around the doors, gaps in between panels that non filtered air can go through......no biggee i just taped the gaps up......i do this so that air will go through the filters....i'm a big believer in having a clean pc.

Seriously you can do damn better than that. Go to radio shack and buy some adhesive stickers and tie wraps and route your cable from there. If you need a longer ATX connector use a extended cable you can buy from Frozen cpu and then once everything is in place you will have a clean looking case with great airflow. Right now your air is choking and bumping everywhere but sorry for being direct but it's a cold hard fact. Fix it! biggrin.gif

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm satisfied with the cable routing for now. I could never hope to do as well as ACHILEE5 and while it may not be the best routing job, it certainly isn't the worst. I'm happy with it and even with a hot Australian summer, my system has reasonable temps. Thanks anyway.
