Hey guys. Been doing a little tuning lately.

Check it out and let me know if you have any advice. I will be further pushing this ram in the future.

As you may know, the release of the new AMD Phenom II X6 chips, combined with their new 890FX chipset platforms bring a lot of changes to the table. Due to changes in chip electronics, they have massive overclocking headroom, not just for the cores but also for the IMC (northbridge frequency). The 890FX chipset features the ability to now push ram speeds ahead of the previous AM3 maximum (which was around 1600-1800MHz). New boards support up to 2000MHz. This is a victory for many high performance ram users, now able to run their ram at their rated specs. This is also a benefit to overclockers, who can push budget ram above and beyond their stock specifications.

I decided to test out these ram speeds myself on my own setup.

My Setup:
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
Mushkin Ridgeback 2X2GB DDR3 Stock @ 1600MHz 6-8-6-24-1T
Gigabyte 890FXA-UD5 W/ F3 BIOS
Ram in slots 3&4 (specified to support the higher ram speeds rather then slots 1&2)

I was just doing a little bit of preliminary testing and here was my first result:

As you can see I have taken a ram that runs at a stock speed of 1600MHz, and pushed it up to 2000MHz. For old Phenom II X4 chips, paired with the 790FX chipset, this was next to impossible. The brand new revisions seem to clean up nicely.

I decided to do a quick and dirty run of Super Pi 1m to see if these speeds were functional. This combination of timings however, failed Super Pi 32m (ram stability). Further tuning for stablity at 2000MHz is required.

In the future I will be doing more ram testing with high frequency speeds on the AMD platform. Stay tuned.

Kay guys, heres the 32m run.
http://slappablog.wordpress.com/2010...ud5-continued/

--

I did some further testing at 2000MHz ram speeds. I discovered that my settings for my 1m Super Pi run were not entirely stable for 32m testing. So I revised a few sub-timings and was successfully able to run 32m. This involved loosening the tRC and tRAS. Keep in mind that this run was done for stability, not to break 32m time records.

My Setup:
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
Mushkin Ridgeback 2X2GB DDR3 Stock @ 1600MHz 6-8-6-24-1T
Gigabyte 890FXA-UD5 W/ F3 BIOS
Ram in slots 3&4 (specified to support the higher ram speeds rather then slots 1&2)

As you can see, I ran the 1090T at a comfortable 4GHz. This was to avoid any processor instabilities getting confused with potential ram instabilities. The IMC was pushed to 3000MHz. This was to reflect how this 2000MHz ram overclock could work together in a stable fashion alongside a stressed IMC.

I will continue to try and improve the timings and speeds of this ram whilst maintaining stability in Super Pi 32m. I will try and find a way to bring the tRC timing back down for increased performance.

Stay Tuned

i wonder if that ram will do 6-9-6 :hint hint:
the trc might have to get loosened a bit more to about 45-50 :another hint:
what volts on the imc?

I tried 6-9-6, but that was on a tight trc still. I will try tomorrow my friend.

I can sense a very knowledgeable member
