Best boot disk format utility

whats the best format utility thats bootable. my computer isnt booting into windows and i need to reformat it and im not comfortable just working with dos

Well if you reformat wont you have to reinstall winows...? So just let window reformat before it installes windows again.

I assume you are going to re-install Windows. In that case, just pop the installation CD in the CD-Rom drive, and boot from it. Let Windows install do its thing, and you will get a screen where you can partition and format the hard drive. Howver, you will loose all data, but I assume you knew that

alright, well now it started formatting and now its frozen at 4% and its been there for like 20 min

no ive got to use a dell installation disk cause its on a dell and thats what my dad wants cause its his computer. so ive got the original question answered now, now i just need to know what to do about the windows format thing freezing at 4%. should i just reboot and try again? or will it screw up the hd?

Don't know what brand of HDD your working on but some have excellent utilities for formating and setting any partitions you may need as well?
