if you have space on your drive just partition and copy your files to there then reformat the other and load OS

That does not work on a RAID array I am afraid--unless you know something about that I do not.... Partition Commander does not allow me to even mess with the array....

>>nvm<<

you still should be able to partition......how much free space do you have?

your other option is to see if you can repair windows.....reboot to windows CD then go as if installing new.....once windows detects other copies of windows present tell it to repair it.

Well I will try that--but I am unaware of any way to partition a RAID array. Just have to wonder if it's a Hardware issue somehow.

a RAID system should just be viewed as a single volume and be able to be partitioned etc....the RAID just determines how data is written to the HDD

as I said there are a few partitioning tools on that boot CD, I usually find that partition magic is the goods

'morning..

Sorry to hear that Druid. Thinking...

You don't have any media to make a backup? Like an old IDE drive you don't use right now?

I suspect that AIW... and it's drivers. Too bad it's hard to run any kind of diagnostics on your harddrives with your RAID array... I know you can't even read S.M.A.R.T. information ...

that is what is on the "more info" link in the error report window--

MS has only this to say:
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Have you scanned you machine for viruses? If not then do as the Backdoor.NTHack virus can cause a KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED error

Try updating your ASPI version to 4.57 or higher (visit www.adaptec.com for info on how to do it)

Disable the automatic restart (System Properties > Advanced > Startup & recovery settings). This will cause windows not to automatically restart if there is a BSOD. Then you can read the BSOD info, and this will help to find the cause.

Why Adaptec? What will updating the ASPI do for me?

I appreciate your help--just want to understand what I'm doing here. I turned off restart. My virtual memory is 2047--which seems low, but shouldn't cause these errrors. I guess I'll get more info from the BSOD when it does it again. Need to dig up the link to that database for those error codes...it's around here somewhere...menawhile I have run AVG and nothing--so I am going to volt up the RAM and CPU some more...maybe it is a stabilty issue...PSU has been looking a little limp lately (11.49)

Thank you for your (continued) help!

11.49 is a bit low... do you have speedfan maintaining a graph of the voltage so you can see if the voltage changes before the error? Also, I did have one of those coolmax taurus PSU's (I think the 550W version).. that thing was very unstable. In my case, it would just shut down my PC when I did anything under load... volts were like 11.55 Idle, and go to like 11.2 load...

I did some poking around on the web.. not a whole lot to find on your specific error (although I did not search too thoroughly). What I found about BCCode: 1000008e seems to point in the direction of the AGP (thus maybe your ATI drivers?)

Regarding ASPI: I don't know the details about it, but maybe this will help:
http://www.mrichter.com/cdr/primer/aspi.htm

However, I could be very careful doing anything with ASPI given the fact that you have a RAID0 setup. ASPI deals with SCSI drivers (which includes SATA), and I would stay away from tinkering with that before doing some serious reading. We both know those RAID0 setups can be tricky
