looking to buy new psu

Thread Starter
Hi,

Just bought a new graphics card and am looking at a new psu.
My local "computer" place mentioned that my motherboard may require a psu that runs -5v rails. I'm looking at a psu in the range of 550w - 600w.
My motherboard is an aopen AX4SPE-UN and my case is an Antex sonata.
Please don't laugh at me i'm new to this stuff and any help would be much appreciated.

Thank You

I was just adding my specs as you were replying
I'm from sydney. How about you?
Was running into problems with my graphics card not performing and came across this site which has more information than a drunk at a pub. Decided i should buy the parts which are falling a little behind like my psu to try and eliminate some of the likely causes. So i thought i should join and ask some questions.

I don't know the brand here, but this one looks good..

580 watt ATX power supply Tagan TG580-U22 2FORCE SERIES
http://www.eyo.com.au/prod_G-TG580-U...CE_SERIES.html

Look at the specs here (click datasheet on the bottom left):
http://www.tagan.com/pages/products/...g580_u22.html#

Dual 12V at 20A each (32A combined)
-5V at 0.8A

Edit: and welcome to the board!

Thanks for the help.
Could i ask how i could find out whether i need the -5v.
If i were to buy either of those which have a -5v and my motherboard in fact doesn't need the -5v am i losing power? If that even makes sense. Sorry haha
Thanks if you do understand and thanks for the welcome =)

No, you won't be loosing power... it's only like 4W on the -5V rail (5v @ 0.8A = 4W). Seems like a case of better safe than sorry. Some looking around on the web gives me the impression that the Tagan is a pretty good PSU and brand.
