85-100?????????????????????????? Why cant my x850xt do stuff like that? Maybe css is better w/ nvidia cards?

Lowering the directX level shouldn't decrease performance. Did you try mat_dxlevel 80 as well?
Its the same thing. My computer starts to lock up w/ that setting. In another words, makes it worse and unplayable.

Metalkobra is right. Check to make sure vsynch is not on. But you're getting decent FPS for your card.

I would most certainly get a new PSU, I've had problems in the past thanks to my old PSU.

You guys realize that CS:S (or any of the Source based games) are CPU limited right?

Omri, you have a 6800 Ultra, which is not as good asn X850 XT, though its fairly close. Source also prefers ATIs X800 generation of cards over nVidia's 6800 generation.

However you have an FX-55, and a card that can handle CS:S at high settings with even AA and AF easily (anything around a 6800 GS or X800 GTO can do it). So in the CPU limited game, you can get higher FPS because of your faster CPU.

Also, the lower your resolution, the more CPU dependant the game will become. This is true for all games. The higher the resolution or AA+AF settings, the more dependant on the graphics card your performance becomes.
