Artic Silver 5?

Thread Starter
Ok I just bought some artic silver 5 and I'm not quite sure how to put it on. I've read many different opinions of how to put it on but what's the best/easiest way to put it on.Also how do I take off the cheap crap that came with the cpu (i've heard about using some alcohol, but would that work and how would I do it)
Thx in advance.
P.S. I don't have a razor or credit card so those options are out of the question.

Try and get hold of some ispropyl alcohol, rubbing alcohol or anything that is near pure alcohol.

Then use a cloth (preferrably lint free) with a bit of the alcohol soaked in, to remove the thermal paste currently on your CPU.

Once you have got rid of all the paste that was on the CPU, Put a BB/rice grain sized blob of AS5 on the CPU then just place you heatsink on top and secure it in place.

For removing the stock thermal paste, put some rubbing alcohol or some nail polish remover on a paper towel. The paste will come off right before your eyes! And for applying the Arctic Silver, put small amount on the center of the CPU core, about the size of a BB. You'll need to spread it around the core so that there's a thin amount all across the surface. You don't need a credit card, just something thin and sturdy, a CD case might do the trick.

Put a little blob on the Center of the Cpu then spread it all across the surface of the Cpu with something thin and sturdy perhaps an old credit card of somesort.

Anything that has a flat, even surface is suitable to spread the thermal paste.

Check out this guide:
http://www.overclock.net/faqs/47757-...-compound.html

Rubbing Alcohol (Isopropyl Alcohol) is the best. Higher percent the better, 96% is great, 90% is fine too.

I wouldn't recommend using nail polish remover because some say it leaves traces of minerals that it contains.

Q-Tips help tremendously when used with Isopropyl Alcohol to rub off any debris before applying the AS5 or other compound.
