OCing my unit

post #1 of 9

OK, after reading I downloaded ClockGen and got my core speed from 1995.0MHz
to 2029.9MHz. now.. next do i need to go into BIO and change vcore for more power? how about Upping the vdimm, relax the RAM timings and/or if necessary set a divider all that?

if this is your first tie ocing best bet is to take as many factors out of the equation as possible. Leave the ram alone except put it on a divider. Then dont use clockgen. Its really just an alternative for motherboards that dont have oc capabilties in the bios. Check you bios out and get aquainted with it. You can set a divider under ram settings and bes tto start with is 166/33 or maybe its called 5:6 in your bios. Put the ht on x4 or maybe yours says 800mhz becase the ht doesnt need to go over 1000 and its found by the ht multi times the fsb. Once you get to 250 fsb then lower the ht to x3. Dont be worried if you up the fsb and the rig doesnt boot up just go back into the bios and and up the voltage one tick and clock the fsb down 2-3 to see if it will boot and then keep on trucking till it happens again. Remember move the fsb only 5 or so at a time so you can pinpoint your best fsb easier. Keep an eye on your temps so that your full load temp doesnt go over 50c. RAM is more of a pain and once you find your max fsb you can mess with ram. There s nice little faq on ram timmings too here. gl

it doesnt automatically load at startup....

put the shortcut to clockgen in your startup folder in your start menu.

nothing should be limiting you at so little increase.

if your machine becomes unstable above that, it is because your AGP/pci bus is not locked.

pci bus needs to be set at 33MHz
agp = 66MHz
pci-x = 100MHz

if these are not locked on your mobo your system will become unstable very quickly
