First time Overclocking my computer

Thread Starter
So I'm planning to overclock my 955 C3 for the first time. At stock, idle temp is 36C and at full load is around 50 52C. Is that little bit high? It was the first time i built a computer too so the thermal paste application could be the problem here.

With that cooler you should actually be able to get around 52C load temps with a fairly decent overclock and some modest voltage (around 3.8GHz and 1.40v I would think). Are all your BIOS settings on default at the moment?

Yes everything is at default and stock right now. I haven't done anything to it yet. I'm just looking at the temperature to see if its considered to high for what i have.

Could you run CPUz and tell us what voltage you are running at right now, that will let us know if your temps are ok. They seems reasonable to me though.

A high temp at full load would be more in the high 65+ range to low 70's. Anything more than 69 and its getting hot and you might want to consider getting a new heatsink

62C is considered to be the max safe temp for the 955 BE, so be sure not to go over it. I would try to stay in the 50's if at all possible when overclocking.

Here are the pics. Are the temps still seem ok for you guys?

When you run prime 95 choose small FFT'S, also try overclocking to like 3.5 and then run another prime 95 for stabability and temps and then post back here
