the fan itself doesn't create the thrust upward.... Thats what the wings are for.

Oh boy! Are you guys barking up the wrong tree! The setup you are talking about will move alotta air...just so there is no flow resistance....propeller type fans work best in free air...they won't push much air if there is any restriction. That's why computer fans are designed the way they are. Note: Thicker frames (38mm vs 20mm)...more pressure...no frame...no pressure.

But, still, it would be interesting and fun to try.
