Thanks!

You going to sell the Intel bits when you upgrade to AMD? If your P4P800SE is in good shape I might swap mine out--I think it's getting tired.

Druid: it's in great shape. And I have the original box and whatnot. I'll let you know when it's available (probably next week or so)

Retrospekt: seems about right.. LOL. Guess I was lucky to get some high reps the last couple of days (The_Duke and the like)

Well he's been helping the forum--it's only natural--hey Chozart time to go to work again--I am starting to bug out at too many choices for the folding rig.

I narrowed down to doing just one rig to get started. I narrowed down to the 805 since it is the cheapest dualcore and seems likely to take a stiff OC.

I have about a half-dozen choices RE: microATX with onboard Video and Sound and I will list links to them below--but I cannot tell which way to go.
Just got an ECS and I cannot figure out how to access the OC options--so no ECS mobos for me anymore. Price is an issue as this needs to be as cheap as possible and still do the job.

This FoxConn board looks to be the best bang for the buck: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813186090

But I know Asus makes a good board: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813131590

And this Gigabyte board has some extra features like firewire... http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813128303

Any suggestions?

I've been looking hard at PSUs and found this one: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817159040
which has PFC and dual 18A rails.

At first I thought about using the PSUs from my current Rigs but considering the demands of running 2 mobos per PSU I decided to spring for one specifically for Crunch.

This Antec might work and it is modular... http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817103937

The Seasonic 380 looks alright--but seems a little underpowered to run 2 mobos http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151022

For RAM 2 X 512 DDR2 667would be about right--though a Corsair fanboy I think t his Patriot might OC better... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220070

Need some advice/help with these choices--looking for a good balance between cheap and powerful (for folding of course).

Thanks!

CyberD

Motherboard: I'd go with ASUS... I know it's ~$120 extra for four of them, but still... The FoxConn is AGP, just in case yu ever want to stick a Video card in them

PSU: how you going to power two MoBos? split the main connector? If so, you'll be drawing all power from 1 rail. Maybe a good single rail PSU is better?
Examples:
ENERMAX Whisper II EG465P-VE FMA(24) ATX12V 460W Power Supply $76 (33A on one 12V rail)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103464

I'd avoid Coolmax. Two of them failed on me! Just from personal experience.

RAM: either the patriot, or the CORSAIR VALUE SELECT 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) $77
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ice=&maxPrice=

Work and being here combine... just love my job (if I actually had more to do, I might) I'm a student, and "work" part time making sure an experiment is going as it should (just keep an eye on things).

What can I say... I *did* ran into some board directors a few times... that helps with the reps I just like troubleshooting.. can't help it.

What you think of a heavy single rail PSU?

Well I added it to the wish list on NewEgg (that's my build sheet there) and I swapped the Foxconn for the Asus and I got the whole tamale for $404 and change. Thats the DDR2 Asus mobo--Patriot RAM--Big Typhoon--Enermax Whisper--Intel 805.

What I need to do now is get myself up to speed on how to fold with Linux as I have a Distro of Mandrake 10.1 I bought from Mandriva.com a while back and can install it unlimited number of times. Not sure how it will all work with multiple rigs networked through a hub and all that jazz--but supposedly Madrake can talk to Windows machines through a network--not certain how that will play out. Still have much to learn about networking let alone Linux.

I think a single strong rail would be at least as good--I just wonder if the rails aren't split in a beneficial manner--meaning isolating the molex powered devices from the 24 pin main plug--which would also be good--some electrical theory might help me understand this better...
