More ram, scores dropped?

Thread Starter
Is it normal that (at least) benchmark-performance drops when you add more ram?

I had earlier one 1gig and one 512mb Kingstons on my AsRock's two slots, and some time ago i bought another 1gig so i have now 2x1gig Kingston CL3 Vrams.

But after that Mark05-score dropped 300p(from 6500-6600 to 6250).

I changed command rate from 2T to 1T from bios(my pc seems to work still normally), but it didn't help to rise scores back.

This is maybe stupid question, but maybe someone can enlighten my about this problem.

Welcome to the forums.

Well, it depends, usually when you have a lower amount of memory I.E. 2x 512MB you can get lower timings, what I think is that your 512MB memory had better timings than your 1GB memory stick and the 512MB stick helped the 1GB stick's performance by having lower timings.

If you haven't already, change the timings in your bios.

You know how to change 2T to 1T so I assume you know how to change timings, if you don't then the values in the BIOS should be:

Ex. If your memory timings are 2-6-4-5

CAS# Latency - 2
RAS# to CAS# Delay - 6
RAS# Precharge - 4
Cycle Time (Tras) - 5

Also, what are your timings currently set to?

Latency setting in bios is "Auto", and my Kingstons native latency is CL3.

Sandra says too that latency is 3 (and frequency is 200Mhz, as it should be).

Should i try to change latency to 2.5?

But what to do if that doesn't work, can i boot back up normally and change it back?

Yes, thats exactly what you should do. And if you can boot and run Prime than try lower timings on your CAS-x-x-x, what are your CAS-x-x-x set to?

Ok, i changed Latency to CL2.5 (they are now 2.5-3-3-8,i think)

But Mark05 booted in the end of the last cpu-test(Sandra's/Everest's tests went through w/out problems), so i changed that 1T back to 2T.

After that Mark05 and 06 went through without problems, and most importantly, i'm back in about 6500-6600p in Mark05(6582p from last one).

So it seems that latency means more to pc's performance than 1T/2T-setting.

Yea. The difference between 1T and 2T is very minimal; maybe a maximum of 5% performance is gained from lowering from 2T to 1T.

I'm glad to have helped.
