Pentium D 805 overclock.

Thread Starter
Ok so far ive gotten to 3979 with 1.6v

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=86957

anyway...i'm trying to get this a little more stable. My northbridge heatsink will literally burn me if i touch it. Could this be causing me instability???

Indeed, the Northbridge will provide instability as well as the PWM/MOSFETS if they are too hot. My advice? Get better cooling on all of the above. Remember that when you use water-cooling you also need to do some work on the case airflow because CPU coolers such as the TT BigTyphoon provide a large amount of airflow. You do NOT want to blow a 'Fet or Capacitor.

Great O/C by the way

That's a bit too high of Vcore IMO.

I've seen them do: 4.0ghz with a 1.400v.
I'd say add a fan to the Nortbridge, those GIGABYTE heat-sinks for the Nortbridge are kinda cheese, I built a system with a 915P and the HS got quite warm and I thought about a fan but never got around to do it.

I had that very problem on my northbridge chip. right after I swapped to water cooling. I just used a video card cooler that holds 2 fans and put 1 right over my NB chip. and dropped it right back down to 30C, I also put some AS5 on the chip as well. I havent had a problem since the change. And I agree I think your Vcore is to high.

BIOS settings are almost always yeild the best overclocks. That is just my experience. You can often get pretty decent ones with software, just be sure to lock PCI/AGP/PCIe buses. Then you may be limited by your RAM and forced to run a divider to attain a higher clock speed.

By the way, nice overclock leprachaun.

thats an impresive overclock man. i am thinking of building a 805 rig and overclock it to 3.5-3.6 with a big typhoon. is that possible?

From what I've seen, it's common to hit 4.0ghz with these chips on AIR, so, air coolers like the BT will most likely get this chip to 4.0ghz.

lets give intel a try even though i love my amds

3.8ghz dualcore intel for 133$ + 50 for TT bt
