will changing from e5300 to Q6600 increase gaming performance? - Page 2

In all sincere honesty - it will depend on the games you're playing. BC2 for instance favors a quad core, as does GTA IV, Dirt 2 and others.

However, most games still prefer two or less cores.

With the more modern games get the more dependent on multi core(quad) cpu's.Clock for clock older games run the same on a dual as they will on a quad. The newer the games you get the more you will see an improvement in a quad.If your motherboard will support a better quad the go that route.Like a Q8200 or so.The Q6600 is a older quad and don't have the advantages of a newer quad does.

Wrong. a Q6600 is superior to that of a Q8200. the larger L2 cache and overclocking of it is still better. the manufacturer process doesnt effect performance. it affects power consumption and heat output

If u ran those game's fine. i dont see why you need a better CPU. if u struggled a bit. then upgrade to a Q6600

i have an E5400 @ 3.41 and most games i play it seems like my CPU is actually just idling a few degrees over normal...so not much going on there. i do however notice that the new medal of honor increases my cpu temps a little bit more, so like others stated, newer games may have a slight advantage. either way, it's not that much of a difference worth upgrading (for me at least)

Perhaps, but that is dependent on the game and your overclock.

I did find SimCity Societies was smoother on a Q6600 vs an E6600.
