Dell UltraSharp 2007WFP worth it?

Thread Starter
I've done a forum search, found one thread with a link to an article of specs....then further comments on the article.

So basically, i'm just posting to find out if this widescreen would make for acceptable gaming. 1680 x 1050 res, 16ms, 800:1 contrast....

I already realize the possible resolution conflicts, however...with respect the response time i've heard both sides that it does and doesn't matter at 16ms or less. Would the response time REALLY that noticable or is it more just an industry marketing lie.

I'd also appreciate comments to be solely to be about my question, don't really need other recommendations, and backed up with some technical explanation would be nice as well. Thanks for help.

Yes, for a widescreen it is more than acceptable. The 16ms response time is fine especially when one considers this is using the "time to transition" measurement between several sets of random gray levels rather than the more misleading "gray-to-gray” response time measurement that many companies use to show a sub 16ms response curve on a per pixel rise and fall.

The Dell is a fine pick in my estimation.

i'm also considering buying the same monitor...I did a little bit of research, and most of the people with Dell monitors are happy with them.

i have the 2005 and i have no regrets, especially for the price i paid for it 394 USD. i lucked out and didn't have any dead pixels or any ghosting/bleeding.

problem with that is, after my 2nd month with it, i started wondering what the 24 would be like. so now i'm looking for a good deal on the 2407s.

Yea i just got the 2007WFP today...looks HUGE compared to what i had before! It came with the 24-pin dvi cable and all that happy stuff. My only complaint is that in the corners it has a tad bit of washout due to backlighting, however, the more i've used it today the less i see it.

Ran oblivion and it looked fantastic on its widescreen resolutions. Kinda killed my frame rates with the higher resolution, but i'll deal with that! (somehow)

Edit: Also, no ghosting on DVDs or games thus far. For anyone who was weary of the 16ms response time i don't believe you need to be

It's easy to fix the frame rate issue....get a new video card.

don't forget to grab Dead Pixel Buddy to see if you have any, well, dead pixels.

No dead pixels, woo woo.

Chim3ra: If you'd like to contribute to my "video card" fund then you can PM me, lol. 500 bucks on this display set me back.

Also got past the backlight issue just by pushing the monitor back a few inches. I was just awlays used to having up in my face before, so i'll just push it back about 4-5 inches

there are widescreen tweaks for some games that don't officially support it. here's a good place to start.
