Is my board holding me back?

Thread Starter
I have a Ecs Kn1 Extreme board with a Amd X2 3800 (toledo) which is currently running at 2.5ghz my system passes Memtest and Super Pi (32m) but when I run Prime95 it stops after about 5 hour with the fatal error message rounding was 0.5 expected 0.4, now is this an issue with the board or is this the maximum speed (250 fsb) for the chips Cpu/Ram interface. I was looking at buying this board http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Socket_939.html or will this not yield any improvements as it may be the cpu holding me back.

ECS is not known for OCing and that MB initally has a 222MHz celing so unless a newer BIOS allows above 250 you are probably at it's max.
Whether or not you will be getting more out of the other components will only be known if you upgrade the MB. Upgrading to the one in your link and how well it OCes... there is very little on it in so I have no idea as to how it OCes.

Nvidia is back on top with their 7900 line of cards, but some prefer one over the other. If you have your mind set on Crossfire setup then make sure you get a board with the RD580 chipset (Xpress 3200). The two you were looking at have it. This chipset is really new, and the price reflects it. If I were you I would wait for others to compete so that the price will come down. For over $50 less you could get a DFI SLI-D Expert board that would be superior in my mind, and from a more established chipset that is known to overclock well.
