Thread Starter
im setting my friend up with an old Tbird i cant really remember what board im using i wanna say an abit bx9..or something anyway i know this processor is unlocked no pencil mods or anything needed.. im just wondering what are some of the temps and volts i should watch when cranking this.. im doing this for him becuase he is stuck with a williamette p4 1.4 with only 128meg or ram.. rambus crap with the amd ive got 700 plus megs of ram for him so i think it will be a better system yes.. any tips or info about these old amds is welcomed its a socket A with basic heatsink.. ive made him order a new heat sink since he scared the one with a screwdriver scapping all the old thermal past off.. im going to use as5 with these non IHS processor should i coat the entire core evenly or what should i do to make sure its affective.. thanks

Well..idk about the voltage, but coat the CORE only. Sometimes it is a good idea to cut a piece of paper the size of the proc with ahole cut the exact size of the core, so that the AS5 won;t get anywhere but ther core.

I think that T-birds don't like more than around 60C at most. I'm not sure though. I think if you dig through Anand and Tom, you'll be able to find out some more stuff.

another good way to coat the core is apply a tiny dot in the middle of the core and use a rubber glove or just rip a piece of shopping bag with your finger and spread it around. make sure its a thin even layer and that it doesnt spill out onto the chip. i just did the shopping bag trick with my chipset

I have on of these CPU on a folding rig. I have it OC'ed to 1.4GHz I think. Its on a VIA chipset board so the RAM limits the OC I am sure. Maybe I was able to get it to 1.5?

I do know that I'm running it at 1.65 volts...and the temps where in the low 50's with a passive heat sink. I didn't wan't more fans making the room noisey. So I tried for the best OC I could at the lowest v-core.

It's been happily folding with no issues for about three months now...going 24/7
