I was talking about AGP in general, including 8x boards.
Asus A7K333 (AGP Pro universal). Note that the A7K333-X had a 1.5v, non-universal slot IIRC! The Asus had a passive heatsink and probably better caps. That matters to me.

Sorry about the 775 comment, I understood you wanted to run a Voodoo AGP on one of those.

All the voodoo cards I have are keyed for 3.5v. The 4x/8x boards that I've seen are all keyed for 1.5v and will not take the 3.5v ones. I have not run across any universal boards yet, at least not "newer" ones.
Voodoos did not implement all AGP capabilities and at least up to the V5 are 3.3v. By the way, I think the same guy that modded his V5 to 1.5v tried to force AGP fastwrites and things like that.
I think newer AGP universal boards are unlikely, it's probably more complex and expensive to make than a 1.5V only. And why would users to run an old 3.3v card with a (let's say) circa 2005 CPU? wink.gif

I'd run one with my 3770k if I could...to bench and get the absolute best scores! tongue.gif

I'm not familiar with the AGP Pro slots. Will they take the non pro cards?

Yeah I know...my former ud5h and z68ma-d2h-b3 had one/two.
My current MVG doesn't I think.

Good old Voodoo graphics cards. I once had a Voodoo 3 3000 PCI which was my first proper 3D graphics card. What a shame though that I've since lost it when moving. sad-smiley-002.gif

GPUs sure have come a long way since then. Even in that middle model 3000 all they needed for cooling was a small heatsink with no fan whatsoever. Nowadays even stock we have coolers that can take up to 3 slots in total.

Shame that 3dfx decided to start making their cards only on their own instead of selling chips to other manufacturers. Would've been interesting to see how they'd fared against the competition if they hadn't made that change.

You can see them in the image you posted earlier. Most Asus boards of the era had AGP pro slots. My K7V-T motherboard also had an AGP Pro slot. To use it as a pro you had to take a paper cover and a small plastic piece, if I recall correctly, but I've never seen a Pro card. Quick answer: they work like normal AGP slots by default.

From what I recall the voodoo 3 run pretty hot. I've been only able to find this figure:

I'm more concerned in today's prices. They went through the roof with the release of the GeForce 2.

Well, depends if those are load or idle temperatures. If it's only 151F (~66C) for 3500 on load then that's certainly not that high IMO. Personally I have no idea though how hot my Voodoo 3 3000 PCI ran since I had no temperature monitoring software for it back then (did they even support any?).

If I recall correctly though the heatsink was never really too warm to touch when powered on. Then again I had no other temp monitoring software either since the motherboard or cpu certainly didn't have any support for temperature monitoring.

I tore into my 2nd rig I ever had (I was about 9 at the time). I found it in my parent's attic. In it was a Voodoo 3!

Its interesting to note, there are SIMMS and DIMMS installed in that motherboard at the same time. I wonder if it was actually using both at the same time. I had a VIA 503+ that could do both, but not at the same time.
