A little change of pace..... Figured we could bounce the thought around here instead of me taking it public...

So I am debating what I should do... I am thinking about upgrading my board... Going with the Asus Sabertooth X58, price is decent for that quality board...

But was also thinking just wait and go with a 2500k build instead...

With the X58 I keep the option of Hexacore open.... But with the SB I get more MHz now... No real way of knowing if the Sabertooth will give me added stability..
I dont like the vdroop feature on this board at all..

So, just some random thoughts... Wonder what you fine folks think...

As far as stability I doubt you will notice much gain unless you are going from like 12 Phases to 24 or something like that, same with the VRM's.
If it has more features like better sound, more ports, or whatever, then I might upgrade.
For gaming you will see a nice performance gain from, *pukes* SB. Yes I said SB, If you can build a second system buy RAM now while prices are good and start with a cheap CPU and upgrade as you go.

But if you want my real opinion, just grab a P4 system for BF2BC so I can have a chance at killing you

Sabertooth is a good board but Gigabyte's UD3r is probably the best bang for your buck in that price range. I also agree with the Hexacore point of view. Down the road when the 970, 980x or 990x drop considerably in price I can swap that out for my 950 and have a lot more computer. Definitely worth considering.

I'd like to see what the IVY (or whatever the next tick/tock ) is before deciding. Might pay to wait and see.

Thanks guys... Still thinking... Probably wont go with SB unless something changes my mind. After all a 950 @ 4.24 is plenty fast enough for anything I will be doing for a while..

I would just like to upgrade this board, its the budget "LE" version of evga's line...
vdroop is sketchy.

1.3375v bios = 1.352v window idle, 1.36v load

1.425v bios = 1.41v windows idle, 1.399v load

Anything set in bios 1.36v and below causes an overshoot, over 1.36 and vdroop starts coming back...

Could also use a new case

Whatever coarse I take one thing is for sure, my BC2 skills will improve so when Guru stabs me in the back I can hide and shoot him over and over

Well, here in Oz it would be $2-300 for a budget board - is it worth it for a few extra mehahertz and a little less heat? Maybe I'm just a wet blanket but....

Then again I have got 4.83GHz with water in the meditteranean southern summer (Melbourne) with an X58A-UD3R Rev2...... but not stable. 4.3 is stable....

Yeah, I could pick up the Sabertooth for 209, then sell this evga for 100 or so and it would only be 100 or so out of pocket...

Probably what I will end up doing.. Gota see whats at the local tigerdirect outlet Monday when I go south...

Case, PSU, Board..... Who knows what impulse buy i will make... I could use all three, but can only really afford 1...

Sabertooth always raises Vcore on load when LLC is on, that's not very nice either. Gigabyte seems to have the best LLC control.
