Well I ran Prime 95 for 8 hours last night, temps were high. Low to mid 80's. Ambient temp was only around 20c but my room doesn't get the best circulation and was like an overn when I awoke. No crashes though. Any recomendations for lowering my load temps? MY qpi/vtt is 1.335v.

Well, from what I have noticed and read about is the higher the overclock the higher the temps... But one thing for sure, turn off HT and drop temps 10c or more depending. HT on a quad core processor for normal use doesn't really buy you anything.

Second thing comes to mind... I'm using an 11 FPI Triple 120 Rad with 6 fans in push/pull. My normal run temps with 4 CPU and 2 GPU BOINC tasks are in the low 60's with HT off. (same with prime95) I would say you are pushing that H70 a little past it's max... although rads generally get more efficient at higher Delta-T's to a point...

I can't run past 4.25GHz without the system SLOWLY heating up to the 70's and going much higher (faster) with HT on. Best way to lower temps a LOT is lower overclock speed, CPU volts and turn off HT.

H70 has push/pull... you could double the fan power and maybe gain a few degrees also. Don't mess with a little, fully double the CFM power... A little does nothing much as I found out the hard (wallet) way.

Great thanks for the info, I'll probably just wind up lowering the oc a little bit. I like the HT because I do a lot of video encoding. It's a champ @3.84 temps like low 60's with prime 95. I'll see if I can't find something in the middle.

That is probably all you can do quickly without spending money and moding things...

Since you benefit from HT being on, the slight decrease in OC will probably not be very noticable.

And later, maybe "we" can wait for the 975x/980x/990x (or whatever) series or 1366 32nm series CPU's to drop to a tolerable price level and go faster that way.

Lap the CPU if you dont care about warranty... I have owned about 10 Intel CPU's, never killed one so I dont care about that warranty...

You can cut 5c with a good lap job

Funny I used to lap all my 775's but with the i7's still under warranty I haven't done any of them, good thing too cause I had to RMA a 920.

Im sure that 920 was just minding its own business on a moderate oc too

I actually have to retract, I never lapped my E5300 or my i5-760, both were cool enough so I didn't need to...

The rest got too hot before reaching the OC limit, and I just couldn't let them get away with that...
