Yes, our good friend nolonger has reciently taken over that thread so it's up to date.
If you get it to look like the Commando in that pic your doing it right. Just MAKE SURE that around the CPU it is very flat and low. You want the pot to make good contact. Then a little insulation, some paper towel on that and warp the pot with some paper towel and your good to go.

Oh! I just bought the same pot as you Alan. After looking at yours several times, I had to.

Only if it provides some sort of advantage..

LLC is good for some because it allows you to lower your idle voltage which lowers temps.

IMO .02 is a pretty good vdroop, so as long as you are stable I would leave it be...

vdrop - difference between bios and actual at idle
vdroop - difference between idle and load

bearing in mind that whatever you are using to measure this (cpu-z or hwmonitor or?) may not be totally accurate.

Using LLC is an individual choice. Some swear by it, others at it. Sin0822 has an article on it - http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...-examined.html Obviously he has reservations. I use Level 2. You decide.

EDIT: Every now and then I miss the fact theres another page on....that the notification post is the bottom of a page...

I can account that I have used a vdroop pencil mod (750i FTW) LLC (P45 UD3) and "Without Vdroop" (EVGA P55 & X58) consistently on about 5 different cpus over the last 3 - 4 years..

Never had an issue....

Cant say that I will be easily scared by someones "warnings" against it. Experience has shown me its harmless...

Keep in mind I believe in the Intel Data Sheets and I am strict about running cpu's well within the "Absolute Maximums" and always take into account the 0.05v VCC Overshoot....

Nice link Alan. I guess I'll stick with LLC 1. It seems to be working ok. I don't fully grasp the concept of this but from what I read that is what most recommend.

Been tinkering and tinkering with this system and I finally think I got it where I like it. Can someone please tell me what the highest exceptable load temps are for the 950? I'm talking Prime 95 load not real world. Right now I'm around 73c-77c.

I'd say 80c hottest core, give or take 2c if needed....

You wont see those temps aside from stressing, even when I push all 8 threads to 100% on an encode I stay in the 60's...

Prime will get me to 80c hottest core...

Yea, that's pretty much exactly what I get also. Those temps seem ok. I also don't get how most people that have a 4.0gHz (or better) OC are able to use only 1.2x v and I have to go a little over 1.3v to get it stable. Is that just the luck of the draw with the chip? Or the motherboard? Or what?

Luck of the draw - but considering these clocks are not necessarily stable, some might be on the edge at those voltages. As well, even if they are stable you can get "degradation" or "voltage creep", whatever you'd want to call it, where progressively higher voltages are needed over time to maintain stability. I think, at the end of the day, very few chips can be left at sub 1.3 for 4 or over. Only a few.

On top of that, their temps may be no different to someone else at a slightly higher voltage. That's what I tell myself anyway...
