or could someone give some tips on how to oc
Nobody just knows how to OC. It takes a lot of reading and reshearch. I think you could learn the basics in about a couple hours of reading. And this forum is here to help teach, so guess what, your in luck.

I don't suggest reading some guides on how to OC first before just asking questions. I believe Alan has a few guides posted on the first page of this thread to start you off.

I echo that NoGuru...Deadshot I've been away from overclocking for at least 5 years and I feel like Im just starting over. There is a lot of experience when you add up all the different scenarios that we have all come up against. Read the tutorials its what I did for 2 weeks...So hit delete when you boot, go into your bios and tweak a few numbers...Don't be scared

Small increments = Large gains

It starts out like that for most of us, we tend to get nervous messing with stuff we know little about.
Heck even after years of it I still would not change things I am not familiar with.

Once you get a feel of it you will become addicted just like the rest of us tho.

Dont go in blind, ask questions. The simple guidelines I use are these:

Set voltages manually, even if they are set to their defaults. This will keep them from fluctuating when you change other settings.
Stay below Intel "Absolute Maximum" for you voltages, in your case they are:
CPU Vcore - 1.50v
CPU VTT - 1.35v
QPI - 1.35v
Stress test when you make changes. I recommend running a 10+ hour Prime95 blend for your final overclock.
Keep load temps (Prime95) below 80c, this will keep your actual load temps for games and everyday tasks well below 70c.

All that is safe, and realize just by going into the bios and making a few changes its not going to blow up. Also running within the specs I posted is considered "safe"

Remember, once its all said and done, and you have reached a nice 24/7 overclock and you see how much fun it is the itch will begin, it usually takes 3 - 6 months before you cant take it anymore and have to do something.
This will continue til you become completely obsessed with it...

NoGuru is an extreme example of this, and alan is creeping into his class

^this. Baby steps!!!!! I spent hours and hours and doing research and asking questions.. Then just before I was about to do anything.... Spent a few more hours reading lol. Funny thing is I became more obsessed with stability and stressing my OC than doing an OC itself. I let my prime blend run for like 36 ish hours before I decided it was stable when I finally made my way through random bsod's etc. (Most were driver related and needed slight bumps in Vcore)

By the way I have been on the boards for some time. One of my post's is even stickied in the SSD section for people new to them and trying to figure out what to do etc. I never get love on rep +.

I don't know if I could do this but I am going to try anyway. If some of you could look through my post's and if you find something helpful I have done please toss me a bit of rep =(.

I am putting together a new rig and want to sell my sig for only 1200.00 bucks but dont have enough rep to do so on here. I would like to see it go to someone on OCN so I can keep in touch with them should they have any questions issues. Also it is my first pride and joy so I would like to see the progressions as time goes on and I start my new rig =)

Thanks millions fellow 950's (if you end up finding something helpful I said and could give me some rep I really really appreciate it!) If not sorry to waste your time!

The overclockers BSOD list in my sig is beyond valuable..

If it were me, new system, first time OC'n I would disable all power saving features, C1E (C State) EIST, SpeedStep, leave Turbo Mode off, set the multi to 23x, set VTT & QPI to 1.35v, put ram to 1.65v and set timings to the defaults (9-9-9-24 for the typical XMS3), set the cpu vcore to 1.35v and raise the BCLK 10 at a time and run a stress test.

You should get pretty close to 4.0 at that, if it errors or BSOD's then chances are you need to bump the CPU Vcore a notch or two.

For 4.0 most can do it right around 1.35v core, for 4.2 or higher most need to be in the 1.40+ range...

Bah hahahaha I think that you are correct

Can't decide if I want to get another GTX 570 or go for two chips I never benched before, the 940 and 960
