Hi ya'll its me again, just got through with a late night overclocking run.

Right down to business.

I finally bit the bullet and upgraded my stock Intel cooler to a Corsair H80 Cooler, and well .... first thing I did was try to break my previous Banzai! run biggrin.gif here's my validation with what I was able to get.

CPU-Z Validation

My Attempt was indeed 4.4Ghz, but somehow according to cpu-z, it only shows my bus speed being 199.94 mhz when it was indeed 200 mhz, oh well close enough right? biggrin.gif

My Processor Batch # is #3002B430

Sadly I'm starting to think that my i7 950 is power hungry! sadsmiley.gif ... it took 1.58v!!! on Vcore just to get 4.4Ghz to boot without bsod, Thankfully i'm happy it lasted long enough for me to get cpu-z validation and then some short gaming session in, I'm also starting to wonder if it's my Asus P6T motherboard that could be holding me back.

I also made an attempt to try 4.6Ghz, safe to say I was unsuccessful in getting it to properly boot, it would fail loading windows at anything under 1.64v, I would arrive at the login screen, and i would also be able to login but bsod or freeze just as soon as I did. So I stopped attempting when I hit 1.7v on the vcore,

Maybe I need to try a different approach, thankfully the idle temps for 4.6Ghz were in the 55C region, according to the bios.

Speaking of temps, compared to stock, the H80 seems to do a good damn job keeping temps down and stable, they were between 46~47C while @ 4.4Ghz on idle.

well another late night overclocking session has gone by for me, time to hit the sack, hopefully i'll try to have a crack at either trying to get 4.5Ghz since i tried 4.6 and was unsuccessful.

Wish me luck!
J.S.

ballsy... i like the sound of that... but hey, why not!! no guts no glory right biggrin.gif it was a risk that I was willing to take.

To be honest I wanted to see what the temps would be like for idle @ high voltage, as well at the same time, trying to get the thing to boot, was a good challenge, and I believe I might have found a weak-link in my build in the process.

I think the ASUS P6T could probably be the weak-link for trying to push anything over 4.4Ghz, but then there's also the processor, no two i7 950 D0's will behave the same after-all. who knows.

The good news is, I think I know for sure now, that I'll be able run 4.2Ghz constantly and stable at full load with decent temps, compared to the stock intel cooler, which would hit 67C idle @ 4.2Ghz as well as crack near 75C on full load

All I know is that for me anywhere from 1.42 to 1.45v gets me a stable boot into the os @ 4.2ghz, so i'm thinking for my next move will be to stress test 4.2Ghz to get it stable for 24/7/365 operation.

The real test however will be in summer time, how well will my system handle the stable and tested 4.2ghz in 34C summer heat? no idea, but I'll keep you posted.

Maybe I should invest in an A/C unit for my room. smile.gif

lol well its very obvious you got some serious guts.
1.42-1.45v does sound like alot for 4.2 Ghz
what do your other voltages/settings look like?

1.25 QPi/DRAM

Auto on the CPU PLL at the moment

For a standard 4.2Ghz 950, what settings would you recommend me trying?
