Nice work finding these, maybe you could add them to the front page to help people push a litte further.

Yeah like AlanC said, once the numbers match up.

Completely frozen within half a second with setfsb- no good for 5 ghz. Tried booting in at a full 1.55 volts, no good there either.

What is ambient temp?

I set vdimm at 1.74, qpi/vtt at 1.48, mem 6x, uncore 13x, relax mem timings to 9,9,9 27 just for less work on mem controller. vcore 1.55 by cpuz with llc on.

And with above, ambient temps are 8-10C.

Hi.

There are so many voltage settings in the BIOS. Can someone give me some preset settings for overclocking to 4.2 GHz?

you had your Vdimm at WHAT?

That is the one angry bios warning I actually listen to O.o

I'm considering starting to fiddle around with clock skews and differential amplitude. Any experience here?

lol, I guess I wont tell you how high I have had it during trial and error stage...but 1.74 isnt that high for short benching, just keep qpi/vtt elevated as well in 1.4-1.5 range. But then again, I have no issue with killing a cpu, though havent done that yet.

I have never improved any overclock, benching, 24/7, or SS by different skews. And changing amplitude from default on my GB of 900mv just decreases stability. Though some have stated it helped.

No point in listening to that one. My sticks have seen up to 1.88V and have run 24/7 at 1.76V. As long as your QPI is within 0.5V of your memory, you're fine.

Ok then...

Here are the settings I am trying to use to get to 5 ghz, and what I am thinking are my only options-

Vcore: 1.55v before vdroop. (I am not going farther than that. Not on air.)
PLL: 1.8 (The sabertooth x58 won't let me go under 1.8)
QPI/DRAM: It fails even harder when its sub 1.425, I'm not really sure what I should set it to.
Oh, multi goal is 23x 218.

RAM is at 1.65, I've tried underclocking it, loosening the timings, both at the same time even. it's not the ram.

I'm considering trying to flash an EVGA BIOS, because of E-Leets brink OC, which would save the 5Ghz Validation even as my CPU slipped into BSODness.

HT must stay on. I want to keep it on.

What do I push? Clock skew? Differential amplitude? Something else?

It always does the same FAIL.

It either:
Will get to "Loading windows", hang before the animation of the window, restart.
Get to "Loading windows", freeze mid-animation, does not restart on its own, but I end up restarting it.
Bootmgr is corrupt. Nuff said.
It will get to "Loading windows" FINISH the animation, but then freeze at the end, then restart.

Sometimes it will BSOD completely, but it only flashes for a second and I can't read what its telling me to do.

What to I do now?

Do not flash to an EVGA it will brick your board.

Try and get into Widows at a lower clock then use SETFSB for the rest.

Really you can't get higher without some better cooling. If you want to do it on air your going to have to set the PC outside and have some big asS fans blowing at it.
Skews don't help much with the X58.
Use slow mode if you have it.
Keep RAM at the slowest multi, but timings can stay at what ever.
High QPI will help.
Increase PCI-E frequency up to about 106.

I'm done.

I pushed the chip as hard as it could go- I nearly made my motherboard fail (I had to reinstall the bios even!) but the chip never got to more than 4.84.

Not a bad mark, but I'll stick with my old one, because it doesn't have the obscenely high Vcore 4.84 required.

The sabertooth is a good board, but it is NOT for ultra-high-end overclocking.

I should've gotten an EVGA classified, or Rampage III Extreme.
