(SSD) How to tell if the alignment is ok?

Thread Starter
Hello all,

I'm new to SSD. Reading about the SSD alignment thing and I got lost.

How can I tell if my SSD is out of the alignmen or not? If it is out of alignment then what will it do the computer?

Thanks,
Min

Run msinfo32 and look under Components > Storage > Disks.

Under the partition starting offset, this number should be divisible by 4096, and if not, then it is not properly aligned.

Windows 7 automatically sets it to 1,048,576 on both mechanical and solid state drives which is fine.

Not only will a misalignment partition cause a performance impact but can put more wear on the SSD.

Another way to tell is to type "DiskPart" in a command prompt. Once DiskPart starts, type in "list disk". Then type "select disk" (like "select disk 0"). Once it's selected, type "list partition". If it's aligned to 1024 KB (that is, if it's aligned properly), then it will say "1024 KB" in the Offset column.

Then type exit, press Enter and then exit and Enter again to fully exit both DiskPart and then the command prompt.
It's a computer!

Well, thank you to all. Learn a little bit everyday.

I post my C300-64GB benchmark on the other thread and infected rat looked at my screen shot and he said I am good to go

Since I RAID-0 on these two I just want to make sure I did the collect installation of the SSD.

Yes you are fine, where it says '103424 K - OK' the OK is telling you that your alignment is fine. If is was misaligned it says BAD, for example see this benchmark result:

31 K - BAD, so that's misaligned which is not good for SSD performance. I'm no expect but as I understand it when you are misaligned a read from what should be a single block can become a read from two blocks thus impacting performance. Since your result said OK you're good to go.
