I have been at this problem for weeks now. I would appreciate anyones experiences or ideas regarding random, spontaneous shutdown
its not thermal prob. have tested memory, cpu, power supply, adjusted voltages to specs, not overclocking at all. just replaced MB and still same crap. im at a loss.. ive pretty much tried everything....... IDEAS ?!?!?!

Hmmmmm.

Ok one thing i noticed

Operating System
2k or xp havent decided

which one are you running?
One other thing you said you swaped out the mobo and still have the restarts. Try a diffrent hard drive with one stick of ram and video see if it still happens then.

random shutdowns generally psu.

if it was when you open a particular program then I'd say software issue...

when you said you tested psu did you mean you had used another one and same thing happened?? or you just tested yours???

if you just tested yours then you'll get inaccurate reading due to lack of load.....your psu may work fine if nothing is connected to it but as soon as you put some power load on it it it craps out

my vote..psu

Ted is right. I almost guarantee the PSU is bad or going bad.

What brand is the PSU?
Does it blue screen or has it done so latley? Do you get any error messages?

My thinking is it could very well be the sata drive that is causing your woes. See if you can run chkdsk on it you may have to run from boot disk but give that a try.
