(PCI) BFG Geforce 6200oc 256Mbs

Halloo!

I'm considering buying a Geforce 6200oc 256Mbs PCI. I currently have a Geforce FX 5700LE 128Mb PCI, and have overclocked the core from 225Mhz to 400Mhz, Stable. The 6200 uses a newer Shader Model than my 5700, and also has a few other hardware accelerated technologies.

I know that the PCI bus is detained in bandwidth, and this limits the capabilities of what hardware potential I can have . I hope that with the optimizations with the newer technologies, I will be able to experience higher quality game-play without suffering from performance issues.

I am wondering if I will get any game performance/appearance benefits from upgrading. Please take every aspect of the video cards into consideration.

Here is a chart comparing Shader Model 2.0 and 3.0: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/winhe...l30_nvidia.mspx
Here is the specs on the 5700LE I have: http://db.jaton.com/VGAProductDetai...84248KL-T128MA0
Here are two links to information about the BFG 6200oc: http://www.bfgtech.com/5500OC_pci.html http://www.chumbo.com/Info.aspx?id=322418

Computer Specifications:
2.2Ghz Pentium 4
1Gb 333DDR
Geforce Fx 5700LE PCI 128Mb (Janton)

Please, don’t post if it’s not directly related to my question.

Thanks!
-Satsuki

Honestly I'd wait until you can afford at least an AGP setup. Regardless you should still see some kind of performance benefit with the new architecture. At present I could not tell you without reservation that sticking with PCI is the way to go.

Forget about it. Save your money and go for a complete upgrade. PCI graphics are dead. You're probably already saturating the PCI bus anyways....

If you really want that card, go for it. I agree with Chim3ra though, save up for a PCI-E setup.

I really want to upgrade, but I'm going to wait for Intel to release their new Core Architecture based Processors. I don't have much money, but by may next year I am going to be getting a new computer.

I could upgrade my Pentium 4 2.2Ghz to a Pentium 4 3.06 with HT! I'd need to save up a few more months though. Those god damn e-tailers are jacking up the price 'cause no one manufactures the processors anymore!

Thanks for the replies, keep 'em com'n!
