G.Skillz vs OCZ Question

Thread Starter
Assuming price is not a factor at all, which is better?

1) 2GB of OCZ Platinum EL PC3200 (DDR400) 2-3-2-5

-or-

2) 2GB of G.Skillz PC4000(DDR500) 3-3-2-8

They would be used with an AMD 4000+ and an Asus A8R32-MVP mobo. I'm assuming the G.Skillz is better, but just want to make sure. Also, would there be any better ram than the G.Skillz around the 150-200$ range?

Why not compare the OCZ DDR500 to the G.Skill DDR500? The G.Skill will OC better than the OCZ but the OCZ will have better timings. In this case I would take the DDR500 for the better bandwidth but I would take a set of OCZ DDR500s over the G.Skill anyday. Look at any review and you will see the OCZ beating the G.Skill (DDR500 vs. DDR500).

Here is the OCZ PC4000 kit I have.

The OCZ is significantly more expensive though, esp. since Newegg has the G.Skill on sale..

Actully those new gskill @ 3.3.2.8 are supposed to be pretty good, and they will do lower latencys if needed. But thats just what I read, as I'm in the market as well...

i had the ocz's first and liked them, however even after loosening teh timings i could only get them to 230.

last week i got the gskills and theres no doubt that they are the better sticks. i can run them fine at 265-270 no problem. and, right now theyre cheaper too.

definitely go w/ the gskills. tight timings are overrated.

Something to consider with reviews. If they are not verry receint they won't hold water to what is being sold today. Since the RAM chip makers are concentrating on DDR2 they are a little less concerned with ultimate chip quality in the DDR RAM so most currently sold RAM won't match the OCing RAM chips of 6 months ago!
The HZ have been doing at least 260 for most and 270 for some. I have not yet determined the ceiling of my

Well.. the G.Skill fanclub has arrived..

I got these ram sticks in my P4P800SE (bit overkill, but I got them because they were on sale and anticipating my upcoming upgrades). They're great
