thanks armada...so this is the updated config.,

cpu: i7-870 from microcenter $230+tax

mobo:GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 from newegg $130
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128412
i thought with the same price as your recommendation i get usb 3.0 and more pci expansion slot

gpu: EVGA geforce gt430 1gb from newegg $80
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130579
this is your suggestion and newegg has it w/ cheaper price but reviews on newegg don't seem to be convincing. is this any good?
from looking at the features it seems promising.

ram: Mushkin Silverline 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820226095
$135 from newegg. i was going to get g.skill ripjaws with better CL and timing but there's no review on this part. the mushkin has good reviews so far.
there shouldn't be too much differences as far as performance between the two, right?

ssd: ocz vertex 2 90gb $185
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227601
is it better 2.5" or 3.5" form factor? which one is easier to install? absolutely had no experince with ssd whatsoever.

HDD: Samsung spinpoint F3 1tb 7200rpm 32mb cache $60
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0340562
might get 2 if budget allows

psu: XFX P1-650X-CAG9 650W $100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817207002
from review here: http://rankedpsulist.dabbledb.com/pu...43-54amps.html
corsair hx650 is good too (rank 2), but i can save $$ and has better review with xfx

Case: Coolermaster HAF 932 full tower $130
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119160
i like the model of this case

BD Burner: LG 10x BD burner $100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136181

CPU cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212 $30
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103065

total is $1180+tax for parts from microcenter, not including rebates and possible combo deals from newegg. what do you think? pretty good, huh?
please convince me regarding the gpu, not so good reviews on newegg put doubts on me.
if everything looks great then i'm ready to pull the trigger this weekend or first thing monday.

looks pretty good, i would suggest if the price difference is not too much to upgrade your ram to 1600mhz if you want to oc up to 4ghz, regarding the gpu, i selected it because its a fermi/newer card with 3d bd playback and will bitstream hd audio to your compatible receiver if your interested (i'm assuming this because of your bd burner), eliminating the need for a separate sound card, here are two links that may help you decide what to get: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-wi...ql-driver.html, http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-visi...uirements.html, almost forgot a 2.5" ssd can be installed in a laptop, the haf932 has a 2.5" bracket, if you decide to get the 3.5" you can install it like a regular hdd, also set your bios to ahci in storage configuration to take advantage of trim support(win 7 only) to prolong the lifespan of your ssd.

thanks....
is it a must to use 1600mhz if i want to oc to 4ghz?? i mean, if i stick with 1333mhz can i still oc i7-870 to 4ghz? reason im asking is because i have to change the mobo since current mobo doesn't support 1600mhz.

as for gpu, i think i will go back to gtx 460

you can use 1333mhz, i just said 1600mhz because it might make your oc a little bit easier (when you oc your cpu you have to oc your ram as well) and the gtx460 is a great card if you can get it for a good price.
