Removing thermal paste. - Page 2

I'm getting my BT tomorrow. How would I get the Thermal Pad off my IHS? Could I scrape most of it off with some plastic and then use some non-scented nail varnish remover to clean it?

Well...when the thermal pad gets sued the firt time, it heats up and spreads...more or less. There are a couple ways to do it. One of which is to turn on your comp...get it under load for about 10 minutes...and pull it apart right after turnig it off...the pad will be suffciently thin to take it apart...much thinner than it would be if you tried other methods...or you could just use a razor blade to get most of it off, then 90% rubbing alcohol and coffee filters.

(if you don;t have 91%, 70% works fine..it jus takes a but more work)

Keep working it with the alcohol. You mayu have to let soak into the pad for a minute or two but eventually all that gunk will come off and she'll look like new again. Be careful if you have an exposed core as they are delicate.

Alcohol and q-tips work best, nail polish remover has asitone in it and could damage the pcb.

yeah...acetone should only be used on completely metal portions (IHS, HS, Waterblock) as acetone is a very harsh chemical (think M.E.K. or turpentine and ur pretty dang close). I use an acetone Methylethylketone mixture to make Acrylic cement by melting the acrylic. It will jsut as easily melt PCB and expose the traces.
