I would go with the second, because you will be able to adjust it better.

I agree, and it seems that XTC's are the same as Gold Series memory other than the higher speeds that only XTC has I.E. OCZ DDR2 PC2-8000 Platinum XTC Extreme Edition

I would recommend DDR2-800, as it will be good for the next gen processors (1066FSB and up). I love my Patriot DDR2-800, it is running at stock voltages at 3-3-3-4.... That is the best timings you can get with DDR2.
