Which GPU for 300 bucks? - Page 3

7900GT, hands down. Volt mod that sucker, and you can get near-7900GTX performance.

x1800xt 512MB. exactly 299 dollars, stock clocks at 625/1500, highly overclockable also.
ive done 2 weeks of research between the x1800xt vs 7800GTX and 7900GT, comparing benchmarks, clock speeds, etc. ive come to find these cards provide equal performance, x1800xt outperforms the nvidia cards on some games and especially 3Dmark05, but the 7 series wins by a few FPS on DOOM 3 etc. either way, u cant go wrong, the x1800xt and the 7900GT are both great cards.
also on a side note, if u buy the x1800xt u will have to sacrifice some eye candy but be able to maintain a high FPS no matter what on some games, this proves true for any resolution. Whereas the 7 series will run these games with all the eye candy on, but only at a certain amount of resolution.
not exactly sure about the above statement, just read it on a review at some site lol.

Dont look at 3dMark scores or benchmarks other than actual gameplay...you'll find that in most cases the 7900GT edges out the X1800 512MB by a few frame rates here and there.

If you are running over 1280x1024 get the X1800 512MB, they tend to do better at higher resolutions. If you're staying at or below said resolution then get a 7900GT

My bad, I red 256-bit thinking it was the memory size. But I rather retail than OEM.

Exactly!
Except 1280x1024 game play is the common, isn't it? At least that's what I always use and been thinking in an ATI X1900XTX for my next upgrade.

But I still think that overall the X1800XT 512MB will be much better picture quality wise........and game play: Card Comparison XT vs GT.

Don't knock someones post without researching your view first. The x1800xt can be found for under $300 nowadays.

$270 for the 256mb version

$309 for the 512mb version

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102697

proof the x1800xt512 is just as good, if not better than 7800gtx/7900gt

Im happy with my 7900gt, I wont buy an ATI card simply because their drivers are a frickin 120mb!! what is that?? I saw that after testing a friends X850. i know its not much, but it takes for ever to install the drivers, and to uninstall em. Besides people, hes getting a nForce 4 SLI board which only supports nVidia's SLI so, i would go with two 7900gts with a vMod on those puppies.

And with the two 7900gts, it'll smoke the x1800s. Dunno about two x1800s in CF mode. but i heard its very much thrown together compared to SLi.
