Need help, just installed my RAID 0

Thread Starter
I just installed my two new SATA 2 160GB in RAID 0 mode. Now i hooked up my previous drive with all my stuff on it and am switching things over to the RAID 0 drive. For some reason when i try to go into "Documents and settings/Username/" on my old drive it says access denied. I have ALL my photoshop pics and work in that folder. I have the 2 RAID drives running the OS of course, and have the IDE ata 133 older drive as slave. How can i get into that folder and transfer my stuff over? also, on the bottom right icons, it shows the "safely remove hardware" icon and when i click on it, it show's my two Sata Drives. What can i do to get this off?

The "Removable" is normal. Sorry, I know of no way to stop that, maybe someone else does
On the IDE, it's probably redundant to ask, but did you dubble check it's config in the BIOS? Have you tried an different cable?

Yeah I don't think you can get the "Removable" thing off either. My understanding is that SATA HDDs were meant to be hot swapable, tailored for the server market and external drive use, so they default as removable drives.

I wouldn't worry about accidentally disconnecting your C: [system] drive though, because if you click it Windows kicks in and recognizes it as a System drive.

As for your other problem, is it just that folder you can't access? No trouble transfering any other data?

I am not sure whether this will work, but take a look at this setting:

- Control Panel
- System
- Hardware tab
- Click "Device Manager"
- Expand "Disk Drives"
- Right click on your RAID array and select "Properties"
- Policies tab
- Make sure "Optimize for Performance" is selected.

Again, I am not sure this works, but try it.

Also, if you just copied games from your old drive to your new RAID array, obviously you don't have the dll's (which reside in the Windows\\System32 folder). Just re-install the games and you're good to go. Did you manage to copy that old "Documents and Settings" folder? My guess would be that the folder was protected by your old Windows install...

Good luck

i still have my old OS on the older HD, so i could just unhook my raid drives, boot from the old drive, change the folder name and then try to transfer. would that work?

You likely won't be able to change the folder name, since it is a "System Folder" in your old windows... However, you can copy all content to another file on that disk.

Did the trick to get rid of the icon work?

Yes copy it to a new folder on the drive, outside anything systembased. ?:\
ew-folder\\

Or copy your files to DVD/CD/removable storage.

Reinstall games, app's etc. on new Array. (you can't just transfer systemfiles)

Another option is to make a cloning of your old drive, and mirror it to the new array.

Or

Make a backup file, and transfer that. (only none systemfiles)

Some apps might have their dll's in their own directory. However, I advise still to re-install photoshop, (don't have the delete the copied version, can install over it) so taht you're sure the application has all system files

What about the remove hardware icon? still there?
