Given that he said it shows in Window's disk management, I assumed that there was detection of the hard drive. Otherwise, valid points.

good point..

i would then double check make sure its reading as the right drive .. and not something funny i would also run a stand alone or non windows checkers on it from a boot disk maybe something like norton utils or other disk checkers and see what it says about the partition and or any data thats on it.. you might be able to check the partion condition with something like fdisk as well make sure its active and what not stuff like that ..

and i hope he sees these post before he does go and freeze his drive

I hope so too.. I was a little too quick on that one. I thought the drive was already toast, based on his statement about clicking..

DO NOT mess with the partitions... if you do, you guaranteed loose all data.

i cant believe you froze it before trying other solutions grin.. becarful with fdisk only use it to check the status of your drive.. then proceed to check it with utilities to see if it has been damaged and if can be recovered

there are some good recovery utils that may help you find your stuff and recover it to another drive.

Recover it All <------great program, helped me out recently

Active@ Partition Recovery <----also very good.

get a hold of these and see if you can find the stuff...

you'lll prob only find a demo but it will let you know if you can read the drive or not..........if it works you maybe able to "find" the full version somewhere or purchase it.

Hey thanks a lot. Here's hoping it works

I even went as far as buying an external enclosure and tried that... Wont even come up through usb. Damn thing clicks and cllicks...

I'm going to open that POS if these don't work. (already tried but don't have the right star driver )

Anyone have a guide on opening and messing with hdd "physically"?

Went to Geek Squad and asked if they could do data recovery...

They said yeah and wen I asked how? They said the have special connectors to connect it to their PC... LOLZ!!! Like a Ribbon Cable?? Duh. And Special software too... And it'll be like $200 and he'll put my info on a "DVD".

What a tard. I have over 200 gigs of shizzle on there

You guys are my only hope. I've learned my lesson... I will back up all the time from now on
