I'll have to wait and see what kind of deal I can find around that time, but yes, I'll likely have enough left over to purchase the prime that Manyak suggested.

I'm just happy that I've finally decided on a body, and know exactly what I'll be buying. Thanks again for all the help guys.
I'd hold off until the holiday sales. I'm not a fan of big box electronics stores like Best Buy, but usually around that time you can find some pretty great deals. My brother got himself a Rebel XS with 75-300mm f/4-5.6 lens and camera bag for a great price there; pretty much everything a beginner in high school like him wants/needs.

Also, I'm not sure if you'd be doing much indoor/low-light shots, but if you are, another thing you can do is buy the body only, buy the 50mm f/1.8 and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens ($80+$80 used on POTN for $160), and use the remaining money to pick up a Speedlite 430EX/430EX II (~$230). Oh, and pick up the 55-250mm for $200 as well. Total cost should be around $1600.

I have got to get out of the marketplace... You know you've been in too long when you can quote prices off the top of your head.

I actually was planning to take a train to B&H to buy my 60D, then go around New York shooting. Specifically at the Nintendo store!

My birthday is December 27th, so I'm going to try and go then. I'll have enough for the 60D at that point. However, for now, I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the 55-250mm IS with an ET-60 from B&H's website and play around with it on the 450D. I've been trying to get myself to wait until black friday, but I don't foresee anyone putting just the lens on sale.

or do you guys think they will put just a lens on sale? I've never looked for photography stuff during the holidays in past years. Does B&H even have black Friday sales online?

EDIT: bought a 55-250mm from r31ncarnat3d
