Buy now or wait for Conroe?

Thread Starter
I'm in the UK so i'm not sure exactly when conroe is coming out, i'm jus wondering should i jus buy now, i was gonna get the intel 930 or wait till the conroe chips come out? i was gonna buy all my parts in early may.

I need to upgrade soon, i've nearly finished my studies and i'm looking to get into gaming big time when i finish at uni!

ah yes one quick thing, when wil Conroe be fully released in the UK? (if a date has been set yet, that is.

Wait for it!

Expected prices in the US:
E6300, 1.86GHz, 2MB Cache - $209
E6400, 2.13GHz, 2MB Cache - $244
E6600, 2.40GHz, 4MB Cache - $316
E6700, 2.67GHz, 4MB Cache - $530

The E6600 seems to be the best performance/price ratio.

For comparison, the 930 is currently listed at $325 on Newegg and for £234.94 (incl. VAT) on overclockers.uk. Thus the E6600 will likely be in your price range.

You will need a new motherboard if you get Conroe right? And what about RAM, DDR2 RAM?

Conroe will run on a 1066fsb and thus PC2 DDR2 533MHz ram will work well with this processor.

I do believe that there will be mainboard support for higher DRAM frequencies though I have yet to see any real performance increases from such moves.
