Ok, so pretty much just want to know an easy way to do this? (Running Fedora 13 x64) Need to be semi-easy to set up and easy to direct other applications to use. Thanks for any help!

Try the SOCKS5 guide on this site:
https://www.it-kartellet.dk/dokuwiki/howto/ssh_proxy

It's basically what hybrid-kernel suggested, except more thoroughly explained.

Ok, probably a dumb question...but is it possible for me to set up an HTTP tunnel without having to connect to an outside computer? (no access to another comp with broadband) Because all solutions I'm seeing point to connecting to an external computer. If so...halp?

Thanks.

Also, with gstm, I can't figure out how to get it to compile. When I run make, I get the error: "make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop."

If I change 'makefile.in' to 'makefile' in the gstm dir, I get the following error: "makefile:15 *** missing separator. Stop."

Sorry if my relative linux noob-ness is annoying you people, bear with me here...

Enable bit-torrenting on my laptop on my college campus. I know people torrent under Windows with no problem out of the box on campus, but for some reason I can't connect my torrent clients in Linux. I figure the firewall is blocking the protocol/ports used for it. I was thinking that running it through an HTTP tunnel would solve the problem.

Could always just be an issue with the way my linux is set up too, so if there's a setting/configuration to change that could work that would be helpful too. If it is, I'd still would like to know how to do this for future reference though.

I work in the ITS department as a Student worker, and asked the network admin about it and he doesn't really care. He just can't leave it open or "help" as per policy. But if I can get it working on my own, well then

Thanks.

You'll need an external server to do that. Then use your torrent client to direct all data through that.

For example with Deluge:

Set it for "tracker" and "peer"

BitTorrent uses port 6881-6889 (or so) by default; your BitTorrent app should have an option to change the port it listens on. Just set it to a random port. (It should already have an option to do that.) Make sure you also enable PEX or DHT.

If you really want to set up a tunnel, you can do that, but you have to tunnel TO somewhere! That means you have to actually have a server somewhere out on the Internet that you connect to using VPN (preferred) or some other method.
