How to change my router to WEP password?

Thread Starter
I have a motorola surfboard sbg901 wireless cable modem and router. My girlfriend wants to be able to use here DS on the wifi so she can update and play online, but it needs to be set to WEP, and now it is set to WPA. How do I change this?

The modem came with a manual on disk, and I cannot get the program to launch.

thanks in advance

You can usually change it through the disk. Otherwise put 192.168.0.1 in your address bar and find your password settings if it works. Maybe you can find the CD that works on Motorola's site

I was able to get to the router page using the ip, I can find the password on the bottom of the modem, but do you have any idea where I would find the username?

You should be able to access your router settings by entering the IP Address...

192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 on any web browser...aka Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.

It might ask you for a username and password which should be provided in manual or something you acquired with your router. It varies upon different routers but yours should be...

Username: admin
Password: motorola

...unless you changed it in the router settings.

Try going to something similar to 'Wireless Settings' and then you might see an option similar to this where you can make the change...

Ok thanks, that got me in. I had to go to wireless > primary network.

In order to enable wep I had to disable wpa, but now I am having problems getting onto the network, it keeps telling me I have limited connectivity. Not sure if Network key 1 is the password, or if I should use the pass on the bottom of the modem? It says passphrase at the bottom, but that doesn't seem to be changing the wifi-pass, what does it do?

just a warning. anybody with half a brain cell and google can break right through WEP within minutes.

this needs to be temporary. and dont new DS's have WPA or some sort of non ancient encryption scheme capability? my PSP has WPA2 connection capacity.

I'll be honest with you...I have never used WEP before so I have no idea. This is what my router setting has if it may help...
