Amd 3800 X2 Overclocking

Thread Starter
Hi, just need to know what I can expect from my 3800 dual core cpu in terms of overclocking. It is in a Biostar T series mobo with two gigs of pc 3200 ram. A 500 w psu, a 7800 GT are also part of the puter. My friend could only get 2.2 stable on air. Any suggestions. I got 2.5 using the auto oc feature but cant run games stable on it. It runs everything great at 2.5 except games.

With BIOS overclocking you could probably get that 2.5 assuming your temps aren't to bad. 2.4 is also a decent clock that you may have to settle with.

Guys, i have no idea what are you talking about, but that overclock is really freaking me out. Are you sure you got a working core?
Mine is considerably stable at 2.65 with stock cooling! i do get high temps, but i live with them. i also dont have the greatest mobo of all, a asus a8r-mvp crossfire edition.
X2 3800+
2 gig 3200 ram
x1800xt 512mb oc'd
and a 500w ps

You might want to RMA that core. Or, i was just lucky.

I got 2.65/core @ 1.65 volts

the voltage is a little high, but I have been running BOINC Seti@home for almost 24 hours now (had a few other locking issues) with the temp not hitting over 51/52, even when playing BF2 for 2 or 3 hours, that's about as high as it gets.

--edit

forgot why i had it at 1.65, was debuging a locking issue, appears that 1.55 is just as stable (at least in the short term), and about 43 degrees under 100% load and 36 or so idle.
