What and how much RAM can I add to my 4 GB?

I have a set of 2x2GB PC1600 G.Skill RipJaws CL7-8-7-24. Do I need to get the exact same set again?

Since my RAM is Dual Channel, I guess. How much RAM do I need to add at least to make it work? Another 4 GB?

So my questions are, as mentioned above:

What RAM set will work with my present RAM and how much do I need to add at least? Does it have to be the exact same model of RAM with the exact same timing?

If you want to keep it in dual channel mode, you need to add 2 more modules (if your adding ram) although they can be 1gb or 2gb modules. I would use the same 1600 ones so that the timings are all the same, but you can use any type of 1600 and just set the timings manually to the same.

The RAM model and timings can be different (your total RAM timings will match the lowest timings though!) and you need to add 2 more sticks of RAM.

Edit: You need 2 more sticks to remain in dual channel mode

Yeah just don't get worse ram, as you'll have to run all timings / speeds off the slowest stick of the 4. I'd just buy the same set of ram, or sell that and get a 2x4 kit.

I definitely would get the same kit considering your current RAM runs 1600 7-8-7 with probably higher voltage than normal (i.e. 1.6-1.65v). You may run into stability problems mixing performance RAM. Sad you couldn't get the ECO 7-8-7's rather than the Ripjaws 7-8-7's though, they probably would've been slightly cheaper and overclock a bit better

Usually best to match.
You can have non-matched capacities and there will be interleaving on the sticks, but it's not going to be consistent performance-wise.

As long as you get another kit with equal capacities (2x2, 2x4, etc), you could just rearrange the RAM to have the same amount of RAM per channel.

I'd make sure the new kit can at least match the frequency and timings you're currently using.
