Networking a Printer

Thread Starter
Hello , my main pc, the one i am on now, has a USB printer directly attached to it. the problem, how does my dad print from his laptop that is next room using my printer? how do i do this without getting a print server and all that stuff? just basic networking.

we both have win XP, internet, connected on same router (wired).

here are my spec if this helps ->

AMD athlon 64 2800+ (oc'd to 2.2GHz)
2GB DDR400 RAM
200GB IDE HDD
80GB IDE HDD
GPU Nvidia 9600XT

thanks,

Dennis

Set your printer to shared. On your dad's comp, add printer from network. It should show the one connected to your comp. If you can't figure it out from there, just post back.

The cheapest way to go about is how not2bad said. You need to share the Printer. I'm not sure if this will affect it but make sure the computers are on the same workgroup. You will also need to leave your computer on 24/7 unless you want your dad to start up your computer each time he needs to print anything.

Good Luck!

Go to Printer in control panel and add printer. Choose add printer from network and you should be able to work from there. Just make sure both comps are on at the same time.
