8800GTS 512 SLI install problem

Thread Starter
Went to install a second 8800 tonight (had previously had one in there before, but it died)- and windows doesn't see the second card. I've reinstalled drivers multiple times (with and without SLI bridge), different versions (260.89/.99; 197.xx) and nothing. At one point I had it running (not sure how) and Riva saw it running at 121C !! So I shut 'er down, reseated the block and tried again, no dice, still idling around 75C load (folding) >100. Needless to say I didn't let it run that hot for more than a few seconds.

Card seems fine, the computer posts and boots with no problem, but nothing sees this second card: device manager, HW monitor, GPU-z, Riva, Speedfan, NV control panel.

Any help is appreciated!!

Was your previous SLI in the same motherboard?

Are you sure the second card is functional? I don't understand what you mean regarding the temperatures, but I'd start by removing your current (functional) card and using the "new" one--making sure it functions properly.

Have you made sure the SLI bridge is connected securely? Are all power connections made?

I know I'm just mentioning pretty simplistic things, but sometimes they're the things we never think of at first.

Yes, same board, same settings. (sig rig)

Presumed to be functional, bought from markt (aka reputable), and no shipping damage. The temperature issue was from the two times it was recognized, it showed as running very hot (~75C on water @ idle, where my primary card was running ~40C). I reset the block and got no change, first set also appeared to be good, all memory, vreg and core contact was good.

Yes, not that the bridge is even necesssary for detection but I have. Power is on, confirmed with alternate cable. Simple things are good places to start, no problem with the suggestions!

With regards to switching the cards, it's kind of a last resort since it's a major PITA to switch the blocks, but I'm running out of options.

Thanks for the advice guys, let me know if you come up with anything else!

You're telling me, mine were watercooled as well. Seriously just try switching the cards.
