Thanks Nahte, I just figured since TJ put that link there I might as well try to add something more useful there.

Thanks for the suggestion and a I agree that I need to add something more to it pertaining to the terminology. miahallens guides are great and I'd recomend them to anyone but I'll probably hold off from directly linking him.

I'll also try to get more in there towards a short definition of what some of the different settings do and some recomended voltage ranges or limits.

A work in progress.

Hey all

i have my i5 750 (not the same as the 760 but close enough)

I have gotten stuck at 4.62GHz, i believe it is my motherboard holding me back, i was wondering if anybody has some trick as to how to get over this problem.

BCLK seems to become unstable around 217 and i cannot boot above 220BCLK.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

4.62GHz is a great OC for a i5 750, even better if it's a 24/7 OC.
why go higher?

No its not a 24/7 overclock, my highest overclock i've bothered to get stable is 4.515GHz.

Going above 4.62 is just in the pursuit of performance, i have gotten stuck at 4.62

@ Xtreme and other knowledgeable OCers. I am disappointed in my present rig vs my old 775/ Q9650 rig. Here is why. I can reach 4.0 and a bit above and pass batteries of stability tests with no problem----but for some unknown reason my rig will freeze on me occasionally when doing minor tasks. I have tried many different voltage combinations to no avail. I have to keep down clocking it to around 3.6---19x190 presently and have the volts set at 1.325 and vtt @ 1.31 presently. No problems here but when I do 4.0 (even using different multi combos) it eventually freezes. I have even boosted the Volts to (BIOS) 1.3625 and vtt to about 1.34 or so if memory serves. The occasional freeze still happens

I did not have this problem with my 775 rig and would like possible solutions to it if anyone has them. Thanks --dennyb

dennyb not sur if I count as a knowledgable overclocker but I'll take a stab in the dark here.Freezes after passing stability tests I would have to be thinking memory problems. Reminds me of problems I had while trying to drop timings on one of my kits. So just some ideas that I'd try here and it may or may not work for you.

In no particular order:
If you have lowered the timings raise them back to spec.

Double check that memory multiplier. 2:8 with a 191 baseclock should be low enough for a 1600 kit. If for some reason it is at 2:10 that could easily be the problem.

DRAM Voltage - Depending on what the voltage is now I'd try giving it a bump or two but still keeping it below 1.66v.

Raise the VTT.

Check RAM for errors using extended testing with something like memtest 86+, I'd do this one stick at a time and just let the test run for several hours.

Seems to be pretty common on P55 boards to hit the wall around 215-217. Only the few exceptions can make that 220+ baseclock. That's been my take on it anyway.

You certainly do qualify and i was hoping that you might have some suggestions.

Ram Timings and volts are stock--but I will bump the volts

I was running the ram speed under 1600--but since I asked the original question this AM I bumped my OC back to 20x200 and set volts to 1.350 and vtt to somewhere around 1.32 ...I think. Will check and edit here coz I'm going to bump DRAM volts and possibly the vtt. Back in a bit sir

edit: Ok the V-core is @ 1.350-- the vtt is @1.33 Ram is 1600 and bumped the volts to 1.58....and yes I have run memtest with no errors....3 passes

@dennyb
I've had something similar before, where I could pass a long stress test, only to freeze when starting a small program like office. It turns out that I needed more VTT than I originally thought. I bumped VTT to about 1.35 and it went away! After some testing, I found that 1.345 is about the lowest I can go on VTT without the freezing when running above 4.1GHz. I haven't had a random freeze since!
