The i5-760 OC Club - Page 117

LOL, yep the guys nailed it. Gotta feed the monkey. I started off saying I'd be happy with 3.4.... 3.4 --> 3.6--> 3.8--> 4.0 --> 4.2 Buy another CPU 4.0 --> 4.7. hmmm bored now. Anyone have a i5 655K they want to sell cheap, looks like it would be fun for some boint runs......

@ Eagna Memory shouldn't hold you back at all for 3.8. In fact just set it to 2:6 or 2:8 and stock timings until you get your CPU overclock stable. Save it for last and treat the memory as almost a seperate overclock.

Nice one Xtreme, very nice. Hadn't looked at HWBot for awhile, I see my 1M run is down to #3 on Air 109ms, maybe I can push the memory a little harder and pick that up. Probably just fry a stick trying.

Thanks ~sizzle~

i actually sold my i5 760 and gonna grab a few others..
i5 661, i5 670, i3 540, i3 550, i5 655k. all should be ran with ln2 since i got a 31L dewar.

this p55 ftw 200 works pretty good for sub zero cooling... once you get use to all the settings and how it reacts when it fails to boot.

What are your bios settings? IE voltages, mem devider, timings...

General rule of thumb is to put ram at or below default and get best OC from the cpu...

CPU Mhz are more important..
I will fill out my specs, thanks for the link

Here is a link to my current endeavors

I'm going to try get everything else 100% stable, and then leave the Ram till last, as its stopping me from progressing.

My Ram timings are 9-9-9-24. I'm thinking that if I have to run at x6 multiplier, that I will try tighten the timings to 8-8-8-24?

Thats an option, if you cant clock it to the default MHz then tightening the timings will help make up the difference

My ram is 1600 6-9-7-24, but I have to run it at 1475 so I set the timings to 6-8-6-20...

Just be sure when adjusting timings to adjust one and run memtest bootable to be sure the setting is good and then move to the next..

I'd still wait to tighten the timings until after your CPU overclock is otherwise stable.

Yeah, I'm working on getting the CPU stable first, then I will deal with the stupid Ram
post #1167 of 1926
Right, so its totally stable at 3800, HOORAY!

I've set the memory to default timings and voltages but with a x6 multiplier. To compensate for this, I opted for a 191 Bclk with a x20 multiplier instead of a 181 Bclk with a x21 multiplier.

Vcore is at 1.248v, which droops rather alarmingly to 1.192v

My bios doesn't have any anti-droop LLC options or anything like that unfortunately, so I'm not sure that there is anything that I can do about that.

VTT is at 1.29, but that could possibly be a snip lower?

Anyways, its so rock solid, and runs nice and cool. You have no idea how tempted I am to shoot for 4000 I mean, its only 10 more bclk

Next mission for when I get home is to tighten up the Ram timings

I had so much fun doing this, 'twas awesome

Thanks for the help guys
LOL I told you it wouldnt last a month

You could try lowering your VTT a bit and testing it, wont hurt anything just lower til it becomes unstable and got back...

1.24 to 1.19 is about averege. vdroop range is .05 - .08 so you are right in that range...

Haha, I'm going to use it normally for at least two weeks, just to ensure everything is cool, then I'm going to hit 4ghz

You were totally right

Thanks for putting my mind at ease about the vdroop. I will lower vtt a smidge and see if I can keep things stable

-imc 1.205v (I could probably lower this one ...imc doesnt do much for me)
-dram 1.44v (7-8-7-24 @ 1724MHz)
with intel burn test i get around 68°c on load
my ambients are around 26-28°c
------------------------------------------------------------------------
any overclocking higher then that requires a lot more core voltage and as a result provides hotter temperatures

I did some quick tests today
183x20(3672) ... worked ok with above voltages
187x20(3740) ... required 1.27v @ load 69°c
195x20(3900) .... required 1.32v @ load 73°c
200x20 ....required 1.34v @ load 75°c (and this wasnt even stavble)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
after all that testing i just reverted all back to my previous settings
)
I decided to give it another go
Im now gonna try with x22 multiplier

...currently I only changed multiplier to x22 and core to 1.3v
IBT 50 runs temp didnt go over 71°c so that good
...and now 24hour prime blend run to see if its stable
