The i5-760 OC Club - Page 120

During normal use you won't get anywhere near the temps that you see while stability testing. 85C is a little high, as long as you are already done testing and it's stable I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you are doing alot of folding, rendering, encoding or something along those lines temps might come back into play but even still they will be lower then the stability testing.

The most demanding thing I do with it currently is playing FFXIV, or any other demanding game though that one seems to put the most stress on CPU. Max temperature I've had while playing is 74C but that's only since the room temperature has risen a lot. Last week when it was cooler in the room, max temp while playing the game was 68C and idle temp was 38C (its 41-42C now).

This is my first time overclocking though, so obviously I'm a little concerned still about both the temperatures and voltages. Next I'll get screenshots etc. so I can be in the club

I hit 80c on stress testing, the most demanding thing I do is video encodes, I use a great program that runs 8 instances and pushes 100% on all my cores/threads, still dont break 70c on that...

So long as your not seeing errors you should be ok...
If you figure that Intel puts the thermal shutdown around 95 - 100c to "prevent damage" then we should be able to say the occasional 70 - 80c isnt that critical..

Thanks for the reassurance

Ideally I'm aiming to never go over 70C, I always suffer in summer though even when I'm not overclocking. I live in a small flat, and the livingroom where my PC is stationed soaks in sunlight all day long. So far so good on the error front though. Mainly I was just paranoid that I would somehow degrade my chip cause I set the voltage so close to the intel rating. I suffer from slight OCD lol

Well I've been running this OC for over a week now and had zero BSOD or other errors. What do I need to do to join the club? Just screenshots of my IBT tests and CPU-Z?

Just post a CPU-Z validation link and screenshot asking for membership. Then PM the OP (tjbridge) a link to that post. Might take awhile as I understand he has been very busy and isn't on OCN on a daily basis.

Ok, thanks for the advice I'm getting a Corsair H50 this week, so hopefully my temperatures will see a sizeable drop and I'll play with the OC some more.

I just did my first overclock on my i5 760. Below are the stats that i have right now. I have ran Prime 95 for 12 hours and Intelburntest for 30 pass. All reported stable with temps reaching 72 for 2 cores during IBT. Would like some advice on how else i could improve this. I tried to bump up the Bclk to 200 but i'm getting a BSOD immediately after running IBT. I'm currently a little worried to push the vcore as the temperatures seem kinda high. Any suggestions? Specs as per shown in my sig. Thanks heaps!

From what I read from other users and going from intel spec, your temperatures are pretty OK. The max is 99C, so you are a long way off that still. As for your voltage, I was concerned too though mines is much higher than yours. Intel spec for the chip is 1.4V so you still have a lot more room to play with, so don't worry too much! When I looked through the list of overclocks, I saw a lot of people running close to the 1.4V spec voltage.

Also another user on here mentioned in a 760 topic to try 21x multiplier because he seems to have good luck with it. So did I. Mines is 191x21 which means the ram is a little underclocked. But its completely negligible.

Edit: It's unlikely you will ever reach your temps in IBT and p95 through normal use. During the hot weather when I tested, I got as high as 89C. But during normal gaming the highest I've reached is 74C. But I don't have as good a cooler as you, so you should be good.

I only had luck with a 200x20 baseclock multiplier. Anything else fubar'd on me.
