The i5-760 OC Club - Page 129

Hey, been running my i5-760 for just over a year now.

4Ghz @ core-volt@1.224v imc/qpi-volt@1.3v max temps ever reached were 62'c on intel burn test.
Dual channel ocz 4Gb 1600 cl7.

Anyone else running an Asus p7h57d-v evo with a i-5 760?

Hey fellas,

I've just recently OC'd my i5 760 to 3.8Ghz Planning to take it to 4.0Ghz this weekend...
I'm pretty new to overclocking so all the information is a bit overwhelming.
One thing that confuses me..is RAM...the speed & timings of it as well...anyway hopefully..after some more careful reading and a bit of testing I'll be able to reach my goal .

I'll definitely post back here and give an update on my progress!

No need to get overwhelmed, these 760's are fun to overclock. If you have any specific question just post them here. I'm sure there are still lots of us subbed to this thread. Also there is quite a bit of good info that's already been posted here if you're up to perusing back threw the thread.

As far as RAM goes the baseclock multiplied by the memory multi gives you the RAM frequency. Too oversimplify timings the lower they are the faster it will be at a given frequency. Overclocking the RAM is the most difficult part of the equation IMO.

Thanks ~sizzzle~.

Just out of curiosity, if I'm using 21x181 and I want to reach 4.0Ghz..should I take the 20x200 approach? Or stick to something like 21x191?

I haven't touched my vCore at all and I'm also assuming I'm going to have to bump this a bit more in order to be stable at 4.0Ghz.

Anyways my weekend begins! The reading and experimenting are starts tonight..nerd pr0n

I'd suggest trying both 21 & 20 to see which your CPU likes better. They are all a little different. 21 works better for myself and quite a few others but a few people do better with 20.

Yep expect to bump the vcore as well as the uncore voltage ( guessing that's labeled as IMC Voltage for you ). This might help you out a bit -- http://www.overclock.net/11209942-post12.html Also check out miahallen's guide http://www.techreaction.net/2010/09/...ide-lynnfield/

HAH! Maybe if you get a nice one that'll do 4Ghz without needing 1.375 V to get there...or 87C temps in LINX despite a big fatty cooler.

Did you leave it on Auto? Some boards will pump up the voltage on their own when left there. Does it appear the same in CPU-Z loaded or does it change as you bump up the bclk?

Here's to hoping you got a good one!

Ok, now I know why you think its so much fun, lol. That's what I need for 2800 buddy. Also, we should totally trade CPU's.

Still alot more fun then just changing the multi and calling it a day.... And not quite as touchy as the 1366 CPU's.

I might be a bit biased though

Adblocked that image, hah!

The worst part about this' that I had an i7 930 and thought it ran a little hot and heated up the room a bit much. So I switched to the i5 760 setup and lo and behold got a CPU that rode the short bus. Hardware monitor tells me the thing can eat 225 watts...so I keep it @ 2900 and pout on the internet for relief.
Other way around for me. My 930 has a nice sweet spot at 3.8 1.25v but getting anywhere past that takes some serious juice. Plus it heats my whole house even when folding @ 3.8.

2.9 eeewwhhh I feal for ya.
